Well, today's your lucky day, because I've got some and pictures to boot.

My 'bad' eye, with the burns highlighted and contrast-enhanced in Photoshop:

My good, regular eye:

When I posted these elsewhere, it was remarked that my 'good' eye also looks like it has burns. I asked the specialist I saw about that, and she said that's just what the eye normally looks like.

i had not had my eyes tested for 8 years and i went last friday.

turned out everything was just fine with no marks on my retina

Those are pretty interesting.Looks pretty nasty, like it's gonna be there for a while. How do they affect your vision overall? :-/

According to the optometrist, they won't heal. The actual impact on my vision isn't very significant anymore, and I only really see the two 'dots', points where my vision distorts straight lines very, very slightly, if I intentionally and carefully look for them. If I don't, I don't see anything (out of the ordinary, I'm not blind).

What sort of laser did the damage? Seems to me you posted over on LC but I can't recall what laser it was.

whoa...it makes me want to use 3 safety goggles....i will have my eyes tested when i get from vacations..

One of them was a CNI Wickedlasers 'Advanced' that was supposed to be 35mW, but it lit matches and popped ballons and cut tape really easily, so I figure it was more like 75-95mW. The other was a friend's Nexus 95mW, also CNI from WL.

Yes, I have two pairs of goggles from Dragonlasers, OD3+ 200-540nm. They're great because they're wider than normal goggles and wrap around your face a bit, so you're protected from the sides, too. Whenever I'm using the laser within 10 feet of me, I wear them.

Geez Amnizu... I'm really glad you got the eye photos taken. They really show what the hell you can do to your eyes if you're not careful. We should really sticky this thread.

I'm not surprised to hear that your brain is adapting to the injury and that you don't notice it much now. Your relative youth is probably a big factor in your brain's resilience and hopefully it won't be a major handicap for you later in life. That's good news, even if it never heals.

Thanks for sharing this... it really drives the point home.

Cheers, CC

I'm always willing to share my experiences in the hope that they can be learned from, so nobody else has to experience what I did. It wasn't terribly traumatic or horrible, but vision is extremely precious. You only get one set of eyes for life, be careful guys.

I also have burns on my retina's from a 200mw red and a 130mw green. (now I have goggles but didnt' before) before long your brain will no longer utilize those burnt out area's as much as you'd think. See, your eye moves constantly because after a rod or cone "fires" it creates a chemical that fills the synaptic gap and until those chemicals can uptake the nerve cannot see at all. So your eye does a micro movement to align on different rods and cones. You can witness this by pressing in on the outside edge of one eyeball and closing the other eye and hold it still preventing it from doing this micromovement and within a few seconds your vision will start to "grey out" this only works when you focus on one thing and don't let your eye move at all.

Thanks for sharing to help and warn others, wish my laser goggles weren't still in the mail but I can be patient and stay away from the laser until they get here.

No problem. I posted them for exactly those reasons. I'm glad so many people are taking away from this what I'd hoped they would.
