They wrote it in the exact case that it's printed so they most likely just copied it off the host. The bad news is this will be remembered as will the host shape. Unfortunately this can only be bad news for Blord and us as a community.

It was Canada Customs, not US or UK Customs Hopefully the customs don't tell each other about this 'threat' to them (As in weapon, which it really isn't)

Anyways, Blord if I ever order from you PLEASE DON'T write DominatoR by Blord on it, or else they will most likely confiscate it (If they remember this confiscation)

I must admit when I started this thread I was totally ignorant of the laws with regard to importing lasers into Canada. As you can see by the thread name, it says Canada customs seized my laser., when in fact it was actually health Canada . Anyways, I filled out the form they gave me, but wrote a letter and asked if I could pay to have it shipped back to the sender. They emailed me back and said this would not be a problem, they would get a hold of the required customs guys and have it shipped back. I have not received anything back on this yet, but at least this is better than it getting destroyed. Perhaps I could use the Dominator host to house my BDR-209 16X 405nm or my New 9mm 445 diode. OMG I want my 700mw 405nm Dominator that I have literally been waiting months for, in my hands so I could do a review!!!!
Anyway, the reasoning is that anything greater than 5mw is a health hazard in Canada. I told them that I wanted it to make a cnc type laser engraver / cutter. They informed me there were other alternatives such as the rayjet available in Canada . http://www.rayjetlaser.com/en-US-CA/Pages/Rayjet_Laser_Engraver_Machine.aspx I fail to see how a 50 watt co2 laser could be considered safer but I guess they know what they are talking about. I think this machine would also be a ton more expensive then the redneck engraver I was thinking of building. You guys are thinking digital but I have an analogue solution. I used to engrave plastic and metal using a gaveogragh like in the picture below. Basically you trace the font with a needle and the little motor on the back copies the movement onto your work piece . I figured I would swap the motor for a laser. Not high tech, but should do the job just fine! Bonus would be millions of these machines out there just waiting to have their motors swapped and available fairly cheap online! If anyone has built one of these I would love to see it! Anyway, Health Canada put a little monkey wrench into my plan for now.

Update time!
I got a hold of Health Canada and asked if they could send the laser back to its original sender. They agreed and told me this would not be a problem. I thought that maybe I could get the maker to take it apart and at least I could get the parts and maybe make another laser from it. It had new batteries as well so I thought all might not be lost. Well when it final got back to the sender, it seemed that health Canada and customs had totally destroyed it. The pins were tore out of the diode, the batteries were put in backwards and fried the diode! I cant understand why they would not send me back the destroyed laser seeing how it could now only be considered a broken host! Anyways, the builder, God bless him, made the host into a plug and burn host for me and I will have a wonderful Blord dominator host awaiting 3.5 watts of blue goodness! My 405 diode got killed by the government but they don't have my 1.1 watt c-11 purple rain laser I built myself! Bitter pill to swallow but lesson is learned. Don't mess with the government and they wont mess with you! Full middle finger of power to da man !!!!!!!!!!!

It is hard to lose diodes or lasers ...

Just an advice ... I sent 4 TerminatoRs to Canada last month. They were the last TerminatoRs I built. All got there safely. The Sender should Just write " flashlight " on the package. And probably sending it with batteries is not smart too. As they can operate it.

Also , customs are not very smart. Once , they checked the MSSSW I got from Sinner a while back. They just checked it .. and they ruined it tottally. I had to re-polish the tailcap and to take the pill out of the barrel. They placed it inside the barrel for some reason :thinking:

Anyways ... Good to hear that it is all over now :beer:
