Default Bestbuyet Goggles Review

Edit: Maybe the Review subforum would've been a better location, but I was hesitant because of the subtitle "Read and write reviews about specific lasers.". Mods, feel free to move this thread if you see fit

Since I needed some goggles for my projector build, I started looking around on Ebay for something a bit cheaper than the $45/each goggles everyone seems to love here

In the end I found those two (See attachment for pic):
190-540 nm
600-750nm

Copied from the Ebay page:

For red goggles:
Protection Wavelength: from 190nm to 540nm
Protection Features: All-round absorption
Visible Light Transmittance: >55%
Optical Density: > 5.0, (OD +5, OD +6)
Attenuation: (10-6 < N% < 10-4)

For blue goggles:
Protection Wavelength: from 600nm to 750nm
Protection Features: All-round absorption
Visible Light Transmittance: >55%
Optical Density: > 5.0, (OD +5, OD +6)
Attenuation: (10-6 < N% < 10-4)

TOTAL price: $15.43.
"You get what you pay for" was going all through my head, but it was too cheap not to give it a try. Threw the goggles in the spectrometer in the lab and got the following results: (note, any results suggesting OD's higher than OD 3 could be anywhere between OD3 and OD99999. OD3-4 is where the spectrometer stops working )

450 nm: 0.03% Transmission
532 nm: <0.01% Transmission
540 nm: 0.07% Transmission
638 nm: 0.08% Transmission
650 nm: 0.35% Transmission

They don't reach the promised OD5+, and don't reach the full range they say they do. Still, .35% transmission should be enough to get a 1400mW beam to a 5mW, so I'd consider them safe for use in <1W beams or so.

As for comfort: They fit pretty nice, if I shove them all the way up the bridge of my nose, they completely close on top, but looking down there's a ~ 30 degree "open angle". Protection from the side seems to be pretty good.

All in all, incredibly cheap glasses which will suffice for low-mid range "higher powered" lasers. I'm very happy with them.

Nice review thanks, as I shop for a pair myself. Is there a way to test how well they block the dangerous unseen IR stuff ?
