i have tried getting laser pointers in and have lost 2 out of 2. but as for modules amd parts they are fine. so if you order a laser pointer see if they can send it in parts for you to assemble yourself.

Sucked too, my fav hoodie.. Says "I just killed a clown" on it with rainbow paint all over the front..
I'm waiting to see if I see it on anyone, cause I'm betting I'm the only person in syd who had one... Then it's GO TIME, MOTHERFUCKER!

I think you'd find yourself trying really hard to blind a whole crowd of people with a hoodie. Just sayin :p

Sucks to loose stuff, but when the stuff can be used to inflict harm on other people is when it becomes a serious issue.

i have just purchased a laser in a hotlight host and have asked for it to be sent in to packages sent a couple of days apart. will let you know what happens when it arrives. should be about a week. will see if they open it to inspect it or what.

just hope they dont get it. dont think will react very well to a 1w laser. lol

You guys seem to be focused on getting your laser through Customs, but from my reading of the Australian regulations it seems to me that the bigger worry would be a criminal record. Attempting to import the laser can get it seized, but if you are caught with an illegal handheld laser inside AUS it is a criminal offense. You may wish to consider this before posting your personal stories on a public forum.

so I'm guessing ordering this through amazon

Amazon.com: 5mw 532nm Astronomy Powerful Green Laser Pointer - Silver: HDE

is a bad idea? I want to start getting into lasers and I donno how else to get one...

Hey jkt368,

don't think it was that exact one, but very similar, and similar price too.

Don't trust the seller; if it gets confiscated by customs they won't refund your money. Besides, you'd get a much better quiality pointer from o-like or rayfoss such as this one www.rayfoss.com
It's only $12US and Faona is very helpful - she was willing to separate the parts for shipping and would be your best shot for getting one.

Of course, now I've seen the effects of a 100mW laser - forget 5mW, I'm saving up!

I signed up just to clarify some things.
I'm an Australian.

I ordered an Aixiz 200mW Red on the 22nd June 2012, and recieved it in the mail, on about the 12th July 2012. From the Aixiz website not from eBay, if that makes any difference.
The package appeared to be unopened, un-tampered.

The laws specifically relate to *Handheld* Devices only.
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4372.asp
Bottom of page.

These objects are restricted for importation.
Laser Pointers: laser pointers; laser pens; laser sights for firearms or other weapons

These objects are not restricted for importation.
laser modules; laser diodes; laser lighting

It's not hard to make half a dozen solder spots and get the laser you want.
If you choose to make it into a prohibited weapon that's your decision.
Handheld (portable) lasers over 1 mW are prohibited weapons.
Lasers that require an external power source are not.

You may import any wattage diode you wish, any drivers, cases, lens...whatever.

The Law looks to be designed to keep your average knuckle dragger from obtaining a device that could cause injury.
It does not prevent those with a $5 soldering iron a $5 DMM and about 20 minutes free time building thier own.

Now if you'll excuse me I have things to set fire to.

Some other interesting tidbits.
Customs only scans 1 in 25 containers and a little over 50% of mail entering Australia. (source search for 'glock australia post germany')
Do with that what you will.
