I doubt the pilot saw the beam from far away. Do a visual check one night with you and your friend. Have him walk a good distance away too see if he can see the beam as it's pointed up. If you do this let me know what the results are, please.[/quote]

The pilot probably didnt see it, but the F.L.I.R probaby did

I agree. He probably wants you to shine it at him so he can come up with some bullshit sob story about how he almost crashed the helicopter so he can get 2 weeks paid vacation.

It's not illegal to have your laser on your property, just to use it irresponsibly (I think). I would have just held them up and waved them around turned off and hold up a sign that says "what are you gonna do about it" or something like that.

You can see the beam easily, we tried it from over 300-400 metres away.

I know, but the police are sometimes think they are like kings and queens and treat people like crap, so I never trusted them.

I set up my green module at my window on bonfire night and left it running for about half an hour, after it was on I spotted an aircraft flying at an unusual path and quickly managed to cover the beam with my hand as it flew past.

I live under a flight path and know where about the planes usually fly and I am always careful not to point at them but this one took a really unusual path.

I did that too ... only it was downstairs and pointing along the grass.

if I'm pointing my lasers outside I just check the skies before I turn them on.

I always check, if there is something I am trying to point at and there's a place in the way then I will wait for it to go before I do.

Just add to this, it seams to be that thanks to the media bashing lasers 24/7 the police seam to think that anyone who has a laser and are pointing it anywhere are up to no good.

Wern't lower powered greenies originally designed for star pointing?

Hahah... no need to get all worked up.

Shooting someone on the street and pointing a laser at a plane are completely different.

I'm sure he was making a joke.

Default Re: Aircrafts

I have been an AF Pilot for over 20 years and have flown large transport aircraft (C-141's and C-17's). *If I was flying at an altitude above 15,000 feet there is no way I would notice a handheld laser pointed at the aircraft, especially since I would be moving at over 375-450 knots or somewhere around 5 to 7 miles a minute. *So at a cruise altitude of 39,000 Feet I say no way. *If it was noticed, the crew would be more curious then anything. *Now if I was on short approach to landing and you were in the front of the aircraft and managed to hit the cockpit then its another story. *You would momentarily blind the crew which needless to say would be extremely disorientating but not disastorous. *The crew would have to be morons to end up crashing. *Today's large aircraft practically land themselves. *Now if I was wearing NVG's and doing a tactical approach/landing then watch out cause I'm gonna do a low approach and airdrop a pallet of rubber dogpooh from Hong Kong on your head ;D

Bottom-Line: Do NOT point in the direction of any aircraft!

As a matter of fact... I recently watched a documentary on aviation and that self landing feature is
in use today on some of the larger aircraft. 8-)

It's not hard to do, just like a self parking car But on a much bigger scale and involving 300 people and an aircraft worth 1,000,000 ;D

Correct, commercial aircraft can land themselves, although there aren't many places that they can as its usually just at large airports like Heathrow.

I've done one stupid thing with my X-85. I shone it through a window, with the laser close to the window. I was looking at the things outside (it was dusk) so I didn't notice that the beam reflected back right into my face until I got it in my right eye. I just saw a huge flash of green light, and literally threw the laser away onto my bed.
As stated earlier in this thread, window reflection is only about 5-10%, so I only got 5-10mW into the eye, but it still seems I got some damage. I don't have a black spot, just a little blur in the center of the eye. It annoyed me in the beginning, but I'm getting used to it. At least I can still see clearly through a rifle scope so it is obviously not that bad, but still bad enough for permanent damage. I'm going to an eye doctor soon, to see if anything can be done.

After this event, I'm very careful with my lasers. Goggles on when using indoors in almost all cases.
