I'd imagine so, and I hope a mod will look into this. I'd like to learn more about how to safely handle the lasers I'll be building in the near future.

as I can imagine quite a few of the people here have, i used to shine <1mW lasers into my eye intentionally out of curiosity. I have not sustained any laser related damage from doing this as far as blind spots, but since even before i heard of a laser my eyesight has been deteriorating at quite a fast pace, I have to replace my eyeglasses almost every 5-6 months since shitty laws here prevent me from having lasic eye surgery to correct my eyesight for a few years.

TL:dr: Whether laser triggered or not, losing your eyesight sucks. worse yet if damage to a single eye [my eyes each have growing problems, one farsighted, one near, left eye starting to lose color sensitivity] as you lose effective depth perception. protect your eyesight while you still have it, or you wont be able to see the beam from your neat new 445

To all who are looking at this thread and cursing the OP with venomous vehemence for venturing to validate is vindictive nature, check out the 2nd post of THIS thread for what he deleted.

All Eidetic was doing was rehashing standard laser safety procedures. Why was this so significant in the first place? I really don't understand why everyone was giving him e-handjobs for that.

It seems to be a pattern on this forum where somebody from PL shows up, makes some "big statement" about common sense laser safety to which about 10-15 people yell "HEAR HEAR!" and rep is given and traded. It's pointless and unnecessary. The information is out there and easy to obtain. Anybody can simply type "laser safety" into Google and all the information will be right there. If it were such a big deal in the first place it ought to have been put into a general sticky in the first place, and it is probably already in one, just nobody remembers it is there.

Since the original post was deleted, I can't know for sure what was said. But I've read all the posts in this thread, as well as searched for other threads on my topic of interest, and to no avail. I would like to know the potential dangers from looking at the dot/beam from 100mW and 1W lasers. Should the dot be looked at at all, or perhaps only on dark surfaces? Is it safe to look at the beam? If so, is there a time duration past which it becomes unsafe? Thanks.
