I received this laser 77 days after ordering it. I knew ordering from wicked lasers was a bad idea, but I did it anyway just out of curiosity and because the hosts looked so nice. I placed an order for an "E3 200 mW" which were at the time $99.95 (great price for 200 mW right?), as of now the same laser is priced at $179.95. The guy I talked to and got shipping info from Joe, said that there was an issue with the hosts or something and this was the reason for the delay. The host I received does say E3 on it as you can see in the pictures, but it is not the same black color as before and now has a pretty cool metallic finish.
Why not do so pros and cons...
CONS:
1) took 77 days to arrive
2) customer service people were not honest with me about shipping time frame
3) and most importantly, THIS LASER IS NOT 200mW, I have some photos of the dot below and I may post some beamshots when it gets dark but this thing is obviously (at least to me) NOT up to spec. I don't have an LPM, but it will not light a black colored match, smoke any black plastic and you can only barely feel the dot on your skin after a few seconds with fresh batteries, and it doesn't even sting you can just feel the warmth. I fear that I was given the 100mW version that they now offer for $99.95, I even called them after the price change and was assured that I would still be receiving the 200 mW version I paid for, but I am doubtful.
4) the FDA tail cap is an absolute piece of junk. There was no way to keep the laser on, you just had to wiggle the pin around until you got it just right.OUT OF THE BOX THIS LASER DID NOT WORK. I had to solder a piece of copper wire over the tail cap to just bypass it.
5) this laser is a little bit of a mode hopper at first, which is expected with green and it usually settles in after a few seconds, not a major con but I thought I would mention it.
PROS:
1) nice, cool looking host with an LED light that seems quite well built other than the garbage tail cap.
2) EXCELLENT beam divergence and quality, definitely up to spec here maybe even more narrow than stated, throws a nice round point on a structure ~1/2 mile away
Overall I am pretty disappointed with wicked lasers and their E3, other than the nice host and excellent beam divergence, everything else is negative. I pay $100 + dollars for something and I expect to get the truth from a company and I expect the product to function right out of the box, these things did NOT happen. I'm not sure what to do with it really, I have thought about returning it but I just imagine how long of and irritating of a process that would be, and I still may get another not up to spec laser. With the little fix I did to bypass the faulty tail cap, this is a nice maybe 50mw green laser with a tight beam, I may just keep it and accept the loss.
Cheers, -Matt
