Laser: DX 20mw waterproof 532nm CR123A laser
My first one arrived but died in a split second, my guess is it got knocked about toomuch in shipping as the infamous 'red glow' was coming fron inside. This one however, wow. It arrived yesterday so the first thing i done was unwrap it (shipped with no box) and put in the battery, 'POW' , it worked, looked kinda weak, so i took it appart.
The module in this one was press fitted and popped out easily, a little too easily, but that's a good thing, the broken one wouldn't budge. You'd think the way it's built the whole of the module would touch the body to dissipate the heat, but this is not the case, only the tip of the laser touches the flashlight body, leaving a cavity that is a couple of millimeters all round.
There is also a chunk of aluminium that screws on over the lens, (which is not adjustable) as the heat comes from the pump at the bottom and nothing is touching it the laser may have heat problems or need a duty cycle. My guess is it's for show/supposed heat dissipation, but on this laser (as the module is so loose) the pressure from the battery makes the module pop out slighly so the aluminium chunk presses on the glass.
So i put it all back together and turned it on, still seemed kinda weak, about 20 seconds later a nice big bright round beam came flying at the wall (about 5 times more powerful than the weak one), woo! I ran a bath and turned the laser on and off many times each time expecting it to die.
My bath was ready and i was sceptical of how waterproof it was, I was hessitant to say the least but turned it on and plunged it into my hot bath (expecting it to break) but nope, it was great, I couldn't believe my eyes. I dunked it in and out for about 20 seconds at a time checking for water leaks but nothing, as my bath was hot i stopped it at that incase it over heated. So I left it in the sink to drip dry.
A few hours later it was night time, and as I took no pics of it the first time, I filled the bath about a fifth of the way (the water was freezing) and waited for the laser to warm up, as soon as I put in in the bath it went weak again, so I pulled it out and the beam was squif, I thought I broke it, then realised there was droplets of water on the lens, quick wipe with a microfiber towell and all was well again. So I turned it on and put it back in the bath waiting for it to warm up to take a couple of pics.
Bottom line: I like it, it's sexy, sturdy, solid waterproof, cheap, runs on cr123a and has a constant on end clicky.
Only problems i can see is the focus can't be adjusted and the lense is not ar coated.
