Hi all :)

Ordered this laser from the skylaser group buy started by ''Offroadfreak8582''

Now the reason i wanted this laser was mostly becouse i just wanted that host in my collection.

Here's a quote from me when things get started ^^

I'm excited

Cheers, Sm

And then....... that one day, the post i had waited for from Offroadfreak :D

09-16-2012
!!ORDER SENT!! GB CLOSED!

Now waiting for confirmation from kevin -> I pay -> waiting for tracking numbers

aahh, those fat red words reading ''order sent'' putted a smile from ear to ear on my face.

Then on 10-05-2012 i recieved this neat and shiny box:

Inside this box we find the laser, a standard charger, a power switch key for the laser, and a remote connector key, and a pair of key's for the carry case itself.

QscIF.jpg

These key's are there to store your laser safe from unwanted people that might find it, and opperate it with no commen sence.

We have two key's that turn this laser on or off (call it FDA compliant, safety designs), aldo they forgot the 5 sec ''beam on'' delay.

The Power switch key is inserted in the key switch in the picture below, and as you can see you can remove it sinds mine is switched in ''on'' position.

You will also notice in this picture ''below'' a LED indicator wich only lights blue when the laser is switched on pressing the forward clicky ''red button'' below that.
It will not light up when you only turn the power switch key.

Qr2xg.jpg

The remote connector key is inserted into the back of the laser.
It's a simple mono jackplug with a piece of string attached to it.
The string is there so you can twist a cord to it and tape it to your door for example, so that if anyone comes into your room and opens the door, the ''remote connector switch key'' will be pulled out from the tailcap stopping the laser from opperating. (ofcourse this depends on what direction the door opens ^^) (if the FDA is happy, i'm happy, and so are unwanted ones that come unpronounced close too it)

What i miss on most laserhosts (hench the ''i want one in my collection'')
Is that this host has a pod mounted screw hole.
This only show's that this laser host is not made out of flimsy alluminium, but has some thick body to it.

fb7hM.jpg

Now i show it in use with a little tripod.

Looks kinky doesn't it. (such a simple twist to a host)

Now for the inside of this laser (without opening it)

Looking down the barrel:

What i noticed is that they didn't use a half moon disk to keep the spring in place, but a full round platter.
I don't know if this has any advantage, but it sure looks well finished. * (Negative battery end goes in first) *

A look at the tailcap inside:

Also looking very clean!
i've seen worse from top dollar lasers.

Jahwu.jpg

Now we have a closer look to the front side of this laser (from it's side ^^)

This laser has 3 twisting mechanism features.

sND0M.jpg

#1 let's you open or close the exit of the laser photons by twisting it to the right for open, and to the left for closing.

Bo1Yw.jpg

#2 is there to let you focus the laser beam.

#3 is there to lock #2 into focused position so that it stay's at that position if you bump into it.

Some beamshots are in order now don't you think ?

I was for once happy that it rained ^^

Some specs:

Wm9cG.jpg

VzXrF.jpg

Small beam is PL650, larger beam is Mit$u 500mW diode also doing 1W.

What i like:

+ 1000mW 650nm (on spec with fresh charged cell)
+ Tripod mounting hole.
+ No flimsy alluminium.
+ safety features (as it is)
+ Locking and focus mechanism have oil in threads.
+ All the effort and service this group buy went into!
+ i like the little sticker with my name on it (simple touch)
+ clean inside look ''down the barrel and tailcap has o-ring and clean threads (no black marks of paint)
+ Aluminium case, with charger, key's, (don't really remember if i got a bettery with it)

What i don't like:

- Flimsy power switch (i'm glad this laser comes with safety key's) * This red power switch is too easy to turn on, and can be dangerous when stored with all safety key's inserted when it rolls over*
- none that i can think off.
- doesn't come with safety glasses (Must be worn with this laser!)
- 5 sec delay in power on is not there!

Cheers, SM.

Thanks Offroad and everyone including Kevin for this group buy.

Good review. Nice pictures and detailed explination !

5 sec delay in power on is not there!
For me that is a plus. I always want a instantaneous on laser.
people push the button, nothing happens, looks into the barrel and boom. Full blast in the face. It is just like a gun with a delay 5 sec, no such thing. :)

I like the delay too. The excitement is mounting during the delay after pressing the power button.

Very nice review Smeer and congratz for owning this laser

Very nice review bro. I wish my HL532 had a tripod hole...

I agree with Blord that personally I like not having a delay. I think it would be rather annoying and potentially dangerous as he pointed out. If anything a gradual start where the laser builds up power over 5 seconds wouldn't be a bad idea.

Man that's nice. I'm gonna try getting myself one of these, I have a lack of high-powered reds.

And I agree, having a slow increase in power over 5 seconds is a better idea.

Sweet review sm! The pictures are very good and i like the detail in this review :) how are the beam specs? Boy that red beam is sexy

I could tell you were very happy with the laser since i got a "free" arctic and a G lens from you for my efforts! I only had to install a new M-140 in it :)

SM you're a great guy!

@ the rest new GB in a few weeks, also adding more lasers in the GB :)

Greetings,,

Very nice review!

Ya don't see too many lasers that have a tripod mount hole. Nice laser.

I am going to get this laser too in the next GB. The BE fits perfectly on the DPL host.

Sweet :D might grab one of those one day.
I've seen them before, and yes now that i have this type of host it sure is nice to have a BE with it.

Your existing beam expander didn't fit on this SKYlasers PL650 1000mW laser ?

ofcourse it will fit with some extra large screw's...
But as far as i know, the expander i have is for 532nm.

*remember the Hercules has a very big head*
Bigger then GLP hosts cni hosts etc...
