@megha...... i think dealextreme does not test his module..... he only order for example 3 quality of moduled.... one for range 5...30.... one for 30...100... one for 200. but... when the seller ship to dx a 200mw module.. it could be 80... 10.. max 130...(only optotronics and other good seller have LITTLE module ..over true 140mw...), but i think you can expect from a 100mw module.. also 100mw... or 120mw. the200mw is only NOMINAL POWER.... it is about 100mw.. sometimes above.. sometimes below... but the 100 mw is more trustable to be about 80... or 100.

maybe i am wrong... i don't know! mut this is my 6 sense....PS...can you test the power with ir filter?you got about 140mw...(good luck :) ) but true green could be 100/110mw... ah... can you say me if the mrad of the beam is good?.. (i say good when it is lower than 1.5mrad....and perfect when it is about 1 mrad)

Alrighty, I managed to do some business and if it turns out Ok, I'll be selling my 50 mW green laser, and I'll use the money to buy 200 mW DX green laser module. So I'll see if the module is somewhat up to specs. If it outputs about 130 mW as stated by Bill, it should be able to ignite matches, which is more than good enough for me.

I will let all you know how it turns out one I got it, however don't hold your breath till then, It'll most likely be in the early days of next year.

BTW @Bill, I'm hopin' to have my LPM finished by then, so I can put it to good use,
and also, did you measure that powers with or w/o IR filter? And can it really ingnite matches? I hope so!

I grabbed a module and let it warm up. It was outputting 141mW on my Laserbee. I then put an IR filter plate in front of the LPM. The reading dropped to 96mW, (probably losing up to 6% of the 532 in the filter) so there is a significant IR component to the output. Using a video camera, I shone the laser through safety goggles, so that I could view the IR output. This output was surprisingly well collimated, the IR spot was the size of a penny at ten feet. Putting the laser goggles between the laser and the LPM let me measure the IR at 24mW, the goggles block some of it. Yes, with a focusing lens, I lit a red wooden match. The IR probably helps ...

Brass laser shown uses 1 x 10440.

Aww crap... so basically that is 100 mW module, for 45$... still comes of cheaper than O-like, but considering quality of product (and possibility of getting defective one is slightly highen on DX)... I dunno...
I must give it a thought or two, but for now I'm undecided.
Bill, what do you suggest?

After a ton of reddies and couple of blurays... I really must get myself a new green laser, more powerfull. But if it ain't worth it, I'll just get myself some more PHR sleds :p

What power supply are you using ? I mean, which batteries or voltages ? I`ve read that 3.0V may be ok, and never go more than 3.7V. Is that correct for you?

Thanks !

do these modules use 9mm 808nm pumps? if so could you take the driver off and use a more precise one to push up the output to real 200mw? or would the crystal crack in a pointer setup? any idea what the power of the pump is in this module? 1000mw? if not could u put a known 1000mw pump in? thanks :)

The problem is not the diode, cheap green pointers all use the same or similar crystals made for about 50mW green. In the "200mW" pointers they put a more powerful pump diode in there, but the crystal is the same, so the crystal is overdriven and outputs less and is less stable.

thanks for the reply :) v helpfull.
would it damage the crystal in these modules if you pumped them high enough to produce 200mw? is it just a matter of heat dissipation from the crystal?
do you or anyone else know what the actual power of the pump diodes in these are?
Does anyone have any dimensions for these other than 60x12dia so that i can add them to my sketchup 3d laser parts library plz? :)
Thanks :)

thanks for the link. sorry for posting bout that on this thread.
may i still ask if anyone has more precise dimensions for these modules so that i can create a public model? :)
Thanks :)

If you want, I can send you the exact dimensions of a DX module but you'll have to wait until this Friday.
You will also have the dimensions of the Laserking 200mW green module (from Laserlands) when I receive it. Hope it will arrive soon.

that would be great if you could! +1 wen u do :) If i were at home i could draw the models for all the lasers I have on my signiture but wont be for while :(
Are you or anyone else able to provide any pics with a ruler scale and/or any dimensions for any lasers etc? i really need some accurate dimensions for the heatsinked 5.6mm diode housing if anyone can help? :)
thanks :)

The only one I have right now is a PHR in a Skylaser host. Everything else is at my other house. Here is a picture of that laser:
skyphr.jpg

The host is 172mm long and 13mm in diameter. Aperture hole is 4.5mm. The fatter part of the tailcap is 14mm.
It was, originally, a Skylasers 50mW green (QC reject bought from Focalprice).

aah ok.. i started doing the 200mw green dx module but i will wait for the dimensions (it wont be accurate otherwise).
did you just put a phr in an aixiz housing with a flexdrive for that pen host?
apreciate the pics. i cant decide whether to model host as there are so many.
thanks :)
