OK guys so after the failed CNI 561nm pen GB I decided to order a 561nm module on my own.

Price
Module was $240
Total including shipping and WU fees $357 OUCH.

Shipping
OK so I wont go to much into shipping.
if you saw my FedEx rant you will know why.

•Wednesday November 11 I sent the money via WU
•Saturday I get an email that CNI can see the money and they will start building the laser.

•Tuesday November 17th The money is received.

•Thursday November 19 the laser shipped

•Tuesday November 24th failed delivery at the wrong house
•Wednesday I picked it up at the wrong house -_-

First impressions
When I first turned on the laser I was surprised how green it was.

The color

It looked exactly like those pale yellow green power indication LEDS.

Context is everything
when looking at 561 alone its green
next to 488 its yellow
next to green the green looks like 515nm :D

If you look at the reflection on the cabinet that is a better representation of the color.
This is 561 and 488nm.

Beam mode
Yea Not TEM00 -_-

Conclusion
In all despite the bad divergence and beam mode I am very happy with the purchase.
This is a must have Wavelength for all you wavelength fanatics out there.

Great, detailed review! It's sad about the shipping and the beam mode but that colour is so good that its worth it for you!

+1 REP!!!

Glad to hear it ended up getting to you safely despite all the troubles.

It also seems like your module outputs just below the 5mW limit, keep it close :)

I see you've got a bench supply, so this should be easy to test: What is the current draw at 3.V? 3V? 2.4V? At what voltage does the current begin to drop?

How warm do the driver and head get?

Current draw on startup at 3 volts is.42 amp

On start up it drops to .41A at 2.9 volts and hold there until ~2.1 volt where the current begins to drop rapidly

After a bit at 3 volts maybe 30 seconds the current drops to .41A

Edit; even after 2 minutes the head is still cool to ambient at worst Nothing appears to get warm.
However the other night I left it on for maybe 10 minutes by mistake and the head was slightly warm.

That's a much higher efficiency than I expected. Regulation down to 2.1V means a couple of NiMH rechargeable AA or AAA would be perfect for this.

^^^ agreed. It seems to hold a pretty good tem00 core, while the shadow/perhipheral cavity modes hop around a bit in background, which is normal. pretty decent for a pointer module. 561 isn't too bad at lower powers, but after about 1W of pump it starts to get picky. I'd love to make a flash or side-pumped yag that I can use to make 561. I have a set of crystals made just for that...could probably get a few watts of it using an L fold or a bowtie modified ring cavity.

Better late than never. Really interesting color though everytime I think about how expensive shipping is yours will pop I'm my head. May need therapy to get over it.
+REP for taking that leap into the unusual (at least for a module you could install into a pointer) wavelength. I can't help but to ask how that shipping charge could be so much? How much was WU? Happy for you though:)

Hey Pman,

Shipping is expensive since CNI sends packages via FedEx Int'l Priority. Takes about 1-3 days to get to you :yh:

Still beats 3 grand either way for the alternative! ;) though doesn't matter as CNI said they're not making any more last I heard.
