This is a review of the Dealextreme 200 mW pen style green laser.

The most important part - My Radiant Shades:
This laser is hard to look at inside without laser goggles and is probably bad for your eyes to boot.
GET LASER GLASSES BEFORE YOU BUY ANY LASER ABOVE 5 mW!!!
The unit comes in a nice black box with a magnetic clip on it:
Inside you will find 2 batteries (these are my own) and the pen and a small folded up manual:
It seems to be labeled correctly:
The front cap is lens free and press fitted on. There is a lens screwed on top the laser diode but it is not accessible without removing the cap:
The grip is made of rubber and has a metal shirt clip on it with the words "Laser Pointer" engraved into it. The button is a momentary switch and is made of metal.
The unit unscrews at the middle to install the two AAA batteries:
Batteries go in + side down with the - side touching the spring on the laser head:
The beam can be seen with the room lights on (hard to photograph):
The beam is extremely bright in the dark (even harder to photograph):
The beam is extremely bright outside (hard to photograph as well):
It looks awesome in the sky at night, I can understand why people do star pointing and the like.
Wouldn't you know the second I grabbed my camera to get a beam shot a plane was flying by..
Just to be safe I waited till I couldn't see or hear it before I used my laser.
Video:
Balloon popping:
The unit seems fairly well constructed, the batteries rattle a little inside but not enough for it to matter.
The unit gets a little warm after being on for a few minutes but does not get hot. The finger test gets uncomfortable after about 3-5 seconds and it will cut through electrical tape in a few seconds as well..
I don't have baloons or matches handy so I can't talk too much about burning at this time but it will make holes in dark foam quite easily. It doesn't seem to an amazing job on plastic and you can not focus the beam.
The dot is quite small and doesn't seem too badly scattered. It easily reaches the end of my street in daylight.
The power output seems to drop quite quickly on a set of batteries so you will either be changing batteries a lot or have to deal with lower power output.
I do not have a power meter so I can't tell you anything about the power output but it's definitely under spec.
I paid under $30 for this laser so I think it was a pretty good deal considering how bright it is and how visible the beam is. It's definitely not the best burner in the world but it's not bad for this price point.
It doesn't have any safety features (interlocks, or key switches) so make sure you keep it somewhere safe as it looks like any other low power laser to muggles)
If you want something cheap to get started with this is a great place to start. DO NOT FORGET THE SAFETY GLASSES THEY ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!!
I will probably add more to this review once I get some outside pictures and some balloons.
Hope you enjoyed it, feel free to post questions and comments.
