Hey, forum. This is my first review here, and also my 50th post! :yh:
If I leave anything out, please let me know. I like detailed reviews, and aim to write one. Also, I apologize in advance for the so-so picture quality. I have a Samsung Seek, and it's cool for the touchscreen, but shot for good pictures.
First of all, I think Faona gives excellent customer service. She answers promptly (for the time gap), and answers your questions fully. She actually talks to you! Not just some silly, automated message.
The laser took a little longer to get to me than expected, Faona told me that they had a severe storm and their loading bay had become flooded with water. The laser, goggles, and keys arrived only a day or two late. So, not really late at all, compared to some other companies... *cough* WICKED! *cough*
I remember reading in the forum that there was a question of whether or not O-like and Rayfoss use the same glasses. One member said O-like uses T-Rex. Well...
I ordered a second pair from Rayfoss which arrived around 6 PM today. Both Rayfoss glasses are labeled T-Rex. I also recently ordered and received glasses from O-like suitable for 532nm, which were T-Rex brand, as well. Just some additional info for the forum.
In my impatience for a working laser, I went to BatteriesPlus, where they gave me a free, junk laptop battery. I pulled it apart, and it had eight cells inside, five of which were still good and held a charge! If people want pictures of these, I can post them later. Anyway, I turned it on and was immediately satisfied, even with the half-dead 18650.
It easily melted dark, quite solid plastic in my office. I took it home and cut through black garbage bags, and lit all colors and variations of matches, even white tips. After three or four days that felt like an age, my battery and charger arrived in the mail.
The battery is solid blue with no markings other than the ring around the positive side.
When I finally turned my laser on with this new battery, it was brilliant. I was a little awed, honestly.
I've never had a laser this powerful before, and had only seen a <50mW greenie in person up until this purchase.
I love my LED indicator. The blue circle really makes me happy.
So does pretty much everything about this laser, though.
It has an incredibly visible beam at night. It's the brightest single thing I've ever seen in my life, next to the sun's light, arc welding, or maybe magnesium combusting. You can see specks of it during the day in the shade of buildings and trees. You can always see the beam at least a little during the day inside, but it doesn't want to show up on my crappy camera. Rayfoss advertises it as, and sends a label of <200mW. However, Faona told me that mine tested stable at 275mW, and peaked up at 315.
The question has been raised by realista about IR filters in these lasers, I'm not sure if my laser is outputting IR light, and am not sure how to test this. I do not have an LPM, but will be sending my laser to a member on LPF to test that for me.
If I add an IR filter, won't it reduce my output power by ~20%?
I am off to work, but will continue adding beam and better host shots when I get off, along with some beam divergence info later tonight. Thanks, guys!
