Intro

Here's the Laser: Rayfoss FLX 100. This is a laser that has been recommended by a lot of members here, so I thought I'd try it out. Faona was really good with communicating, but I asked for the laser to be shipped without a battery (I already had some), and she didn't include the battery or charger, which I wanted. It's alright because I already have one, just be sure you specify what you wanted shipped and excluded.

First Impressions

I'll start with packaging. The laser came in a brown bubble-wrap bag (of course), with a sheet of bubble wrap and the laser in a hard box. I expected it to be cheap, but I actually like the box. The flap is magnetic, so it closes itself.
The laser itself came with a <5mW sticker, which I removed and replaced with the 100mW sticked included in the bottom of the box. Delivery took 7 days from shipping date.

To be honest, I wasn't very impressed with the overall quality of the laser. It feels solid, and well built, but there are a few things that bother me. First of all, there were some scratches along the edge of the end of the laser and tailcap (silver spots in the anodization). Second, the focusing ring, the one furthest from the top, feels loose, as it rattles around the barrel, almost as if it's too big. And the LED doesn't work. I could send it in for a replacement, but I don't really care about the LED, as it gets in the way of beamshots. Also, it's way smaller than I expected!

Beam quality/preformance

Never having owned a laser over 15mW, it's hard for me to make a comparison. The specs that faona gave me were 125mW average, 140mW peak. The beam visibility is good, you can just barely make out the beam in a lit room, and you can see it pretty well at night (but it doesn't appear solid, and you probably wouldn't notice it 20 feet away). This picture shows the beam how it really appears the best:

The divergence is bad. At 20 feet, the beam is about an inch wide.

The burning is great, again not being able to compare it. It smokes black plastics/leather instantly, but only when focused. Dark purple balloons pop instantly, and normal colors take about a second. I was able to light a sharpied match in about 3-4 seconds.

Conclusion

This is a great laser, and it comes at a great price. Although I can't help but think "you get what you pay for". After the build imperfections and bad divergence, I would not recommend this laser to others. Unless of course you're looking for and expecting to get something a little cheap. I'm keeping it. :)

No, that's the "532nm line"... I might have to fix that.

There is one thing I forgot to mention. This laser does not fit protected 18650 batteries. As you can see from the picture, my laser is left partially unscrewed. I'm going to pick up some thick o-rings to fix the problem, but be aware of it if your batteries are protected.

nice.... between the 75$ and the 125$... is better to buy the 75! your 100 si peak 140... very good for the price!!! if someone want more... i am quite sure that would not choose che 150mw... but directly the 200mw... :)

Hallucynogenyc.... why do you say is better the model without led? ( i didn't remember why)

hei... there are so much different version of this laser!!! 1) like this with led. 2) like this with NO HOLE for led.... 3) the similar version with different front part....with che closing mechanism that neet ti "push"... and not to "turn" like in model 1 e 2.

Apparently, the version without the LED has better divergence. And yeah, I like the shutter. It's good to be able to put the laser in your pocket (another reason size is a plus).
