i am going to the sh*t shack tom and dropping 50 bucks on this laser. right after the batts drop in i'll write a review on it since i cant find much of anything about it in this forum. Lazer Photons
The radio shack pointers aren't that bad. No added shipping costs. No 2-5 week wait(dx). If you get a defective laser you can easily return it. IR filter included. They are good if you want a semi-cheap pointer that won't fry your eyes if you make a mistake.
JSP4th, How do you plan on building a 400mW DIY? (in his signature). I would feel comfortable spending the $50 at RS if I wanted it immediately with the convenience of returning it immediately if it was defective. But since I'm patient (plus I have several other lasers... ) I would wait for a few DX lasers, unless I was a "True" laser geek, then I would save for a real laser like a RPL or Nova or something.
ok guys so i went out and got it....just so i have something to mess with while i wait for my nova 75mw (hoping it will be @ least 90 or more ;D i think that the RS laser isn't bad...the + side is that it seems that they didn't use any glue but instead everything is threaded and there is even little slots to get a wide screwdriver in there to remove the driver/diode/lens all in one piece (which after i get my high powered nova i'm gonna gut my gun site and make it a greenie. also today is the first time i've seen green laser light (aside from clubs and pink floyd laser showes) and to me it was worth the 50 bucks (+ $7.00 fot e2 batts) plus instead of waiting without any laser at all it took all of 10 min to get and i plan on trying to get it to fail by pushing the limits, pot modding, then just simply returning it. and trust me i dont feel bad about screwing RS b/c they have screwed me many times, which i'm sure everybody can relate to, and isn't that the american dream. cons on the laser is...well its prob only like 3-4mw...and the lens in down inside the housing so cleaning dust off i'm sure is gonna be a pain in the ass. also it is very heavy (good, built well...bad, not something i can walk around with in my shirt pocket) all in all i think for somebody who wants a good POINTER and wants it now its fine. and the nova wait won't be as bad since my <5mw is still the brightest pointer i've ever owned. as soon as i can i'm gonna get some pics (inside and out) for everyone and a couple beam shots.
