Pulsar 125 Review.  

I will start this off by saying that I am no wicked fanboy. I bought the pulsar because I wanted a high powered red pointer and optotronics/nova don't sell them.

I now present a fair review of the wicked pulsar 125.

Part 1 of review.
Packaging and shipping.

I ordered the laser on Saturday and it arrived at my house today(Tuesday). Not bad for shipping from china.
It came in a plain white box full of soft Styrofoam.



The laser itself was securely contained in a smaller black plastic box with foam inside. Here a picture comparing it to my lyra.



Part 2 of review.
Performance.......
After taking it out of the package and putting some alkaline AAAs in it I had some fun testing its burning abilities.

With the focusing cap it successfully lit matches, fuses and burned through black tape. Without the cap it has trouble burning stuff because of the 4 mm beam diameter. The beam divergence is actually very good. It has less beam divergence than my aries-35. It has no mode shifting issues or other obvious stability problems.

Visibly the dot is about as bright as the dot from my aries-35. The red beam is visible in the night sky and in other dark areas.

Overall score.
Pros=
1 fast shipping
2 no damage to laser on arrival
3 Laser appears to be high quality-No scratches/dents/push button works well/threads are good.
4 Works as advertised.
5 Good divergence and battery life.

Cons=
1 Can't use lithiums because wicked is too cheap to install a regulating circuit on the pulsars.
2 Needs the $30 lens set to reliably burn stuff.
3 Large beam diameter.

Overall grade=B.
Would be an A- if wicked lasers would be less cheap and install a regulating circuit.

And of course I have prepared some burning vids and a night sky shot for your viewing pleasure =)
Matches-Some took longer because I was still figuring out how to focus it for best results.

i know alot of users have reported their executive/evolution wicked laser to be underpowered, but in saying that some have had slightly over-powered pulsars?

every singel one of my pulsars have failed on me and i rma'd it about 4 times before i finally sent it off to senkat to do it right. i know that people are usually pretty fond of the pulsars but in my experience they are crap

I have to say I love mine. It was my first "burning" laser, so I'm pretty fond of it. I'm not such a fan of the huge beam because it makes it hard to combine with other beams without optics, but overall I've been happy with it. When my shiny new Kenom LPM gets here I'll post an actual output figure. (+-10mW, of course... )

For convenience, you can cut the groove in your case longer with a knife so you can store it with the cap set on.

I store mine in my laserglow lyra case. It has plenty of soft foam and the pulsar fits inside with the cap still on it. This is nice because it keeps dust and other particles off the actual laser lens.

I have a Pulsar-125 & asked Pete Murphy from W.L. to send me the Coherent Field Readings for the Pulsar that I was buying & they came out as this; (mind you, this is over only 30 sec.) PEAK-192mW.s Average-161mW.s Even though it's a W.L. Product, I have to say that I'm very happy with it, & it does work better than they claim. Phoenix77

I built my own, doesn't look as nice but works exactly the same. I installed a green LED under the button of mine, there's no driver and I've had it for 6 months now with no problems. I use NiMh batts @ 1.2v. Mine of coarse has the adjustable focus Aixis lens so no caps needed.

Why did you go with the P125 in lieu of the DX 200? Nice glasses btw.

yea my dx 200 red burns instantly on more items than my greens :'( but then again reds do that

No fair. Five DX200s versus one P125.

To do a fair review of the red dx200 vs the pulsar125 you would need to buy 5 of the dx200's and then pick the best one out of them ;D
The pulsar is pitiful when you think about it.
$200 for a red DVD burner stuck into an aixiz module in a nice pen-style casing. It doesn't even have a driver so it will die if you use lithium AAA's in it. It probably costs wicked $40 to make the pulsars and they sell them for 400-600% of that.
Also they probably use the same diodes in all of the pulsars. After the batch is made they simply line them up and label all of the brightest pulsars as P125's and all of the dimmest as P75's.
