;D ;D

Damn... well... I hope NyQuil will work better on you guys than it's working on me... I'm drugged as a lab rat but still manage to wake up and stumble around... hitting doors face first at night has become the norm now... :-[ ;D

P.S. Mike... I'm not touching your LPM for this exact purpose :-?

1.. its daytime!
2.. you had to look into the big scary laser with that remaining eye, didnt you?

Seriously, i hope you'll be feeling better soon!

LOL @ 2 ;D ;D ;D

Nice one Ben ;D

Also thank you very much... I'm feeling A LOT better tonight and will probably knock most of the testing tonight or tomorrow. So all the juicy details will be online very soon :D

Hey all... As promised I have done a lot of testing and a lot of graphing and have finally decided to redo everything all anew and have the following to report...

Although these are of a higher power and are meant to be driven at a higher CW output (200mW) When both were TEC cooled and ran at a stringent control temperature they displayed very similar characteristics. While it is unfair to say that they will perform as such in our own DIY projects, these are meant to be driven harder and for longer periods of time. They do generate quite a bit of heat and will need some good heatsinking, but the important point here is that the optics can handle the stress that 200mW CW can generate :D

Attached you will find my last test that I have don on these units in a graph showing the SenKat GB diodes and the phazer diodes... remember that both were actively cooled and very strictly monitored and so these values may not correspond to your average run in an AixiZ module and in an enclosed chamber as would be the case in some flashlights ;)

Many thanks go out to Hemlock Mike for providing me with his LPM-1 meter which let me do the following testing and allowed me to provide you all with this information.

I again apologize for the delay but I just sucked it up today and sat my @$$ down and did all of this which took up most of the day given I spent half the time coughing my lungs out and the other half wheezing ;D

I've also recorded some material which shows the beam, comparison shots at ~120mW and the burning power of this thing while it's outputting 245mW TEC cooled! This should all be following in a little bit, but enjoy the graph as of now.

By the way, I just wanted to congratulate LarryQ and Merl for winning these diodes in the raffle held up for them, I'm sure you guys will put them to excellent use in your projects. They are excellent burners, but better off, they are AMAZING show stoppers.

For this graph... The table has been attached to the bottom so the data points are visible. The measurements were done using the LPM (obviously) and the mA were measured through a sense resistor in the current path. It was pointless to push the GB diode past its peak at 410mA but I went the extra little bit just to show it is in fact the peak, and I didn't push the PHAZER diodes much more than the spec sheet called for because they are frankly not mine and I couldn't bare the sight of a possibly dead-in-my-hands 200mW CW diode! :-?

Keep a lookout for the pictures.

Enjoy;
DDL

Nice graph...it almost matches up with Mike's. Looking forward to the beam shots.

So, as cool as these might be, I think I missed out on something:

What exactly are the PHAZEr diodes? 20x diodes? Because they do appear nice powerful!

I've got to say I'm a little bit under-impressed with the output (certainly not with the DDL's testing or the quality of the graph - they are both well done). I was expecting a little larger differential between the two diodes - especially at the higher power. I'm not convinced yet that the marginal increase will justify the extra cash.

Same idea here really - these 'phazer' diodes don't seem to offer much extra compared to the GB diodes as we have them now. I think they'd still make excellent lasers for the people that got them in the raffle, but i doubt its worth a future group buy. At least, now we know!

The graphs are nice to have though, interesting to see that the output of the GB diode actually goes down at the 440 mA point. It's probably because despite the TEC it's (internal) temperature rises.

Oh well, it shows that to get higher power outputs, improvements in cooling will do me more good that different diodes, for now :)

Id like to invest in one just so that I can have a laser that is STABLE over 200mw.  It's kind of been a threshold I've been unable to attain and this diode is probably going to do it.  That being said, I don't think that the gb is probably going to be worth it so I'd have to spend $200 just for 1 diode.  I'm not interested in doing so nor am I really all that interested in spending $40+ to get that threshold.  Not when I've got 13 dvd drives enroute for $50 Especially when you need Tec cooling to achieve these #'s and we all don't have the capability of adding tec's into our hosts. A lab laser would be a different story.
