Alright So this is my first review, I thought I'd give it a try considering all the help I've gotten from you guys here. I know there are actually quite a few reviews on this laser so far but hey, another perspective cant hurt right?

This will be a review of the O-like 400mW 405nm Blu-ray Laser Torch.

As seen here on O-likes website.

Beam: I'm Fairly new in the laser game, All I really have to compare this to is a 660nm 250mW.

The 660nm beam is much more visible than this 405nm Beam.
The 405nm beam does not travel very far at all in my opinion (Around 100 yards).

The violet beam is fairly visible at night or in a dark room, but not visible at all during the day or in a lit room.

Host:This is a great little host! I was very impressed with it. O-like does show it as more of a gray host on their website, it is indeed black. It's very comfortable to hold and feels sturdy in-hand. The rear clicky is very sturdy, almost too sturdy it could be a little easier on the press. I personally would prefer to have a side clicky rather than a rear just for ease of access. It is listed as waterproof, I've not tested that yet. I might try that at some point. It has 3 rubber O rings where it screws together one at the back where the battery is inserted and two towards the front where the lens and module is. One problem I do have with this host is the focusing ring is very, very hard to turn on mine. This isn't necessarily a horrible thing but it gets annoying when trying to adjust it.

Burning Capabilities: This is a perfect choice for a beginner with burning in mind. It begins to burn almost instantly and burns through black CD cases in a matter of seconds when focused correctly.

Company: O-like was easy enough to browse and order from. The customer service wasn't bad, About what I had expected in dealing with out of country service - Basically just generalized answers, not a whole lot of help to be honest but I never really had any issues either just shipping questions. I ordered the laser on December 30th and received it on February 15th. I did not pay for the extra DHL shipping. This was a bit long for me considering it didn't even show as shipped until a week later and sat in Hongkong for probably about two weeks. I get very impatient with shipping so this did frustrate me a bit, I would recommend paying the extra $15 for DHL, the only down side to that is DHL will not ship batteries. It was received in a shipping envelope in the black cardboard "case" with foam cut outs, It included a little note about the duty cycle and battery insertion.

Over all I would recommend this laser to beginners and experts alike. It is a great laser for the price, especially considering the charger was included. A very sturdy feeling build that I have had no problems with so far. Thanks O-Like!

Once again an awesome review of this lasers power and I am still waiting for mine to come. Do you have an LPM? It would be interesting to see what power output you get because some people have showed theirs to be well over spec.

I do not, But I would send it to someone that did, I just don't have the cash for shipping.
The only thing I got from O-like / Susie when I asked what MY lasers out put was something along the lines of "350mW+"

Nice review. But I was wondering why sometimes I have to scroll waaay over to the right to read the whole post.
Is it my computer or is it a result of the posting method?

Oh blechhhhh!!!!!!!!!

I can see from one of your pictures that this unit has the same soldered-on unsupported break-off negative battery pole spring that the OLNG350 350mw 532nm has.

I have two of these units (I liked the first one so well that I got a second one). But I never looked carefully at the battery spring.

Great, this means that I have three (3) O-like lasers with the soldered-on unsupported break-off battery springs.

I believe that it is time for me to invest in a brick of EVA foam, and figure out the dimensions and internal diameters of hollow EVA foam plugs to support these springs...

Yupp I saw the thread on that and debated on referencing it here, that was actually my whole reason for that spring picture :|

Thank you so much for posting the pictures about the negative terminal!
Unfortunately, a bunch of O-like lasers has this broken-off-spring issue.
I ordered and received from O-like the IR filtered 450mW, 532nm Green laser torch (Model#: OLNGL400)
450mW New portable Green laser torch/IR filtered [OLNGL400] - $389.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

I like to remove the batteries from my lasers after each use. As a "result," after the 2nd use of the OLNGL400, the spring at the negative terminal was bent then broken off by the 18650 battery. There's absolutely no EVA foam support around the spring @ the negative end!
I wrote at least 5 e-mails to O-like/Susie and he/she ignores my requests to fix it. I stuck with a useless $389 laser. Right now I'm really upset with O-like.

I have not read your post earlier therefore I ordered the O-Like 405nm 400mw Blu-ray just like you did.
I sent to O-like/Susie the following message through PayPal, O-like & personal e-mail:

Dear O-like representative!

I left a comment at the time of purchase on Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products
"Can you make sure that sufficient EVA foam pad supports the spring at the negative terminal inside the laser. (MODEL# OL-405T-400 and the OL808-200) Very important! Thank You!"
If there is no support then do place EVA foam support around the spring.

Has any O-like technician done anything about it?

Thanks in advance for your answer!

Regards,

Within hours She answered the following:

Hello Steven

Yes ,we done it

Thanks
Susie

Well, in 2-3 weeks I will receive my package and I can comment further on their truthfulness...

Anyway, at this point I think this was the last time I ordered from O-like. :(

Yep this is the widest I have ever seen a review how about resizing your pictures so we don't all have to scroll to look at them it's a real pain in the ass.
Please repost this correctly so we don't have to scroll to look at it !
Thanks ;)

SteveIsNowHere please PM me if you dont get the resolution from o-like

There was a sudden turnaround in my troubles with O-like...
Since 02/19/11 I have sent more than 7 e-mails and 2 days ago finally Susie let me to ship the green laser with the broken spring back. I paid $44 for the express USPS shipping and I'm gonna pay $23 through PayPal for the return express shipping. They're gonna fix at no additional charge.

I have received 2 days ago the new lasers too with batteries, chargers all together in a single package even though it was sent via EMS express. (I got it in 9 days.) I was pleasantly surprised that after asking O-like before shipping to place EVA foam support around the spring of the drivers...well they did it. There is EVA foam support around the spring of the 400mW blu-ray 405nm laser torch (OL-405T-400) and the 808nm 220mW laser torch (OL808-200) alike.

It seems to me that it was well worth to ask them to do this little "modification." They did not charge me any additional fees. These torches will be more durable than my 450mW 532nm green laser torch...

I'm gonna get back the 450mW green from O-like at the end of March. I hope they will fix it well.

Coming from the guy that has 3x3 pictures in his sig?

I'm sorry you have to move your mouse a little bit on your 11.6 inch monitor. I'm not reposting this. It would seem more sensible for you to just be grateful you're getting a review with decent pictures at all. Granted it's not the most detailed review as far as words go but people want pictures in a review in my opinion. Not just a bunch of people saying "this lasar is real goods, it duz burn".

Deal with it or don't look at it.

That is actually 2.5 X 10 inch on my 17" screen! :D

Maros, thanks for posting the pictures! :thanks:
It helped me a lot! Especially the picture about the driver's spring. I sent an e-mail to O-like and before shipping the laser they placed EVA foam around the spring. It saved me from troubles!
The laser works great and I don't have to worry about a broken off spring in the future.

3 pictures at 3x3 lol but i guess that could be considered one long picture. Anytime, thats what I'm here for. I'm glad you got it fixed! I wish I had caught your post before I had ordered mine or I would have done the same. I'm sure they'd probably still do that but I don't really want to deal with another month of waiting for that!
