Re: Nova X125 Quick-Review

It seems as if a lot of the clearance lasers do have a beam that comes out at a few degrees angle. It may be common for pen lasers though with difficulty getting the lens set well. Just got an x150 with same issue. I'd like to know what the divergence turns out to be.

Re: Nova X125 Quick-Review

Is your X150 overspec as well? When safety glasses arrive, I'll update with divergence ... have you measured your X150's yet? I'm curious as well.

The beam from my X125 seems pretty small, I'd say about .5 mm at about 6 inches from the aperture (total guestimate though).

Re: Nova X125 Quick-Review

Nice review. It looks like you got a good laser.
I think the whole "non-premium" laser thing is BS, though.

It is a very common thing that the laser beam of a green laser exits slightly off center.
There are many optical components and very precise alignment is needed for a perfectly concentric beam.
I've bought many green lasers from many vendors (NOVA included) and all have had a beam that exits a few degrees from perfect.
Trust me, an X125 from NOVA is as "premium" as it gets in the world of pen lasers, clearance or not.

I couldn't agree more; I picked up an X125 as well and as far as I can tell it's about as perfect as it could be. They really are great lasers.

Thanks, yeah, I'm really happy with my X125, just can't wait to get my goggles :)

I ordered a "200mW" from Focalprice, can't wait to compare.

Re: Nova X125 Quick-Review

Update with evening/night photos:

Indoors:

0vm1ea

v05uwf

ecf35l

as you can see, the 'dot' is really bright and basically lights up the whole room when reflecting off a white wall.

Outdoors (made sure there weren't any planes or UFO's before aiming at sky):

kcrpt1

dmnl40

9662tn

the beam looks really thin relative to the photos of other green beams in other reviews.

compared to 650mW 445 custom blue (built by yobresal):

Re: Nova X125 Quick-Review

Thats good to know that the angled beams are common.

@vaniteux My nova is overspec but not as much as yours. You seem to have gotten a x150. Mine averages at 157 and peaks at 167. I'll be able to test it with good quality batteries at the university when classes start. Same with the divergence with a beam profiler hopefully. I'm having a hard time measuring the diameter at the aperture. I know its between 0.5 and 1mm. looks around 0.8mm.

I am also waiting for some good quality goggles from dragon lasers to arrive along with my spartan 447, but from what I can tell my divergence is somewhere around 1.1mRad. I'm only measuring from about 8.2 meters though so I need to get some more distance.
Have you tried lighting a match and finding the max distance and time it took?

Sounds like I have a similar one to you, Slickfins. I also ordered a Spartan 447 and glasses from DL :). Haven't lit a match or conducted any burn tests yet, waiting for safety glasses. Will update when glasses arrive :)
