New Case, Big Competition For Pelican!

Hi, all!

It was time for me to upgrade my carrying case. My old one wasn't cutting it anymore.

I don't have a lab at home (no space), and I don't trust leaving my expensive equipment around my shop (meth heads). So, I needed a case that was big enough for not only my lasers, but the more portable parts of my equipment list as well.

So, I knew I wanted durability. I did not, however, wish to spend nearly $200 for a Pelican case large enough to fit my needs. I looked at the metal Ape Case brand, and the others.
At the sizes I needed, I kept reading about the problems that buyers were having with them; Too weak, scratches easily, cheap and breakable locks, cheap hardware, etc...

So, like I said, there was no way I was gonna drop the small fortune necessary for the right sized Pelican case. So, I started looking through the various plastic cases until I came across this:

Amazon.com: Nanuk 925 Case with Cubed Foam (Olive): Camera & Photo

As you can see, it holds all of my lasers!

A perspective shot...

As soon as I unpacked this case, I knew my "f-ig around days" were over. This is a serious case! But, will it hold all my crap??

Indeed, it will! You can see all the lasers it holds. The inventory list for everything else includes:

Safety goggles - 2 pairs
Ophir 20C w/ heatsinking mod
Ophir DIY PSU w/ switch
DMM for LPM and driver testing
Leads for LPM and power cord for charger
Nitecore Intellicharger
4 18650 batteries
DMM pouch with upgraded leads and micro-clips/alligator clips
Diode heatsink by Mrcrouse
Jufran testload
Set of Allen wrenches for heatsinks

I've had this case for several days now, and I am so happy with it. It's so big and sturdy!
One great feature is the latching mechanism with safety locks. They are pretty well impossible to release accidentally.
It also has a pressure valve, just like the Pelican brand cases.
It even has dual holes for FAA and TSA compliant locks.
(Not that we can get away with these pipe-bomb-appearing lasers at the airport!)

So, compared to the metal cases, this case is not cheap. But, IT'S WORTH IT! Plus, at $100 shipped, it greatly blows away the competition in the plastic cases available!

Considering all of the problems people had with their various brands of metal cases, I feel like I picked the perfect case for my needs.

Thanks for reading!

That's a big case with a great price. I should get one for my Titan.

I'm really enjoying this case.

How big is the Titan? This is their second largest case, should you need more space.

That is one sweet case! I used Plano gun cases for quite a while as they are dirt cheap.

I was just getting ready to buy a pelican case, but after seeing this yesterday morning, and doing some more research on my own, I almost immediately went and ordered Nanuk's 915 case with cubed foam. Which is a slightly smaller version as I don't have near as much stuff to load it up with just yet, and it should arrive here in the next week or so, but I can already tell I'm going to very happy with my purchase. Thank you for sharing this SBA. :) +1

Titan is about 14.5" long. So damn big, but worth the continuous duty cycle of 400mW green.

Right on...it'll fit nicely in this case then!

Thanks, mdubbicus! I think you're going to be happy with this case. I've owned Pelican cases in the past. I see no reason, so far, to spend the extra cash on a Pelican. This is a professional level carrying case, and I even like the latches better than the Pelican. I sure hope you enjoy your new case.
It certainly gets more impressive looks from my friends who know of my hobby! They know I mean business when I walk in the room with this!
