No CC I have avoided 1 min. and longer run times. My feeling is that it would be unharmed for a couple or so of min. , but I may try to fit a silver bracket around the Aixiz housing, it couldn't hurt to have more heat sink. -Glenn

That raises a good question then: Does anyone know what the maximum safe operating temperature would be for these diodes? I bought a few of these digital temperature probes DX SKU 10028 thinking that I could mod them into my more sensitive lasers to keep an eye on diode temperature, but I really have no idea what would constitute a "dangerous" temperature.

I was going to pick the temperature that seemed to generate the highest meter power reading and add 10°, which would be safe, but may well be conservative. I'll have to experiment a bit I guess. Thanks for the idea, and let us know if you're successful with adding the heat sink. That would be a great mod if it could extend the duty cycle a bit.

Cheers, CC

You should not be noticing any warming of these diodes or the module. I left them on for few minutes at the time and repeatedly, many times. You can touch the front module then (even with your lips)and there should be no, or barely noticeable warmth. I've had them on for over 10min and they felt barely warm on the lip.

Your diodes are quite efficient and will not generate enough heat for extra heat sink to help much. It doesn't hurt though. Silver plate already acts as heat sink and even that is not necessary in my opinion.

Finding specs would be very nice (not to mention useful in finally setting standards),but I doubt that series of diodes have specs that apply the way we use them. All ps3 diodes differ anyway.

This technology is not to be pushed too much in any case. I would recommend 2-3min on and not too repeatedly, and it should be fine. But much like with extra heat sink, it cant hurt to run it less.

cheers

I just received my Milos 405nm Blue Ray laser (the one listed as ~27mW - 42mA (my meter <15.5)) today. I am very impressed. The color is beautiful. The power is amazing. When focused I can smoke my black rubber coaster and even sting my skin. I currently do not have a laser meter to test it with but seeing that it can do some burning just makes it that much better. Thanks Milos !

LOL ;D

I'd hate to see your lip the day you get a hot one! Solarcaine tastes like hell... (long story) :D

Thanks for the temperature information on these diodes, and I see you have yet another satisfied customer. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks again for making great little lasers for those of us with lesser skillz!

Cheers, CC

Thank you, for nice videos. I will be making some higher powered models in months to come with real good and clean diodes (not scavenged from optical drives)
They are 2nd/3rd generation and will have true spec sheets. That will certainly help a lot, and set some standards as well as warranty.

Whoever bought lasers from me of this first "mistery" PS3 generation will have great % discount on next gen. model

cheers

Concerning the meters. I've finally compiled all the components and the last few boards I could get my hands on and will begin assembly this weekend. You can expect to see these shipped by monday and out to each individual that has purchased them. :) that includes you Miloš

Nice, My lasercheck should will be re-calibrated with focus on 405nm soon too.

thanks for the update Kenom!!

At the low mA these run at, heatsinking is usually not a problem. I have found that BR diodes 15 mW & 6x, are a bit heat sensitive and like to run a about body temp. They don't like cool.

Thanks all, for posting all the data!

Thanks Kenom, for putting spotlight on the Coherent sensor.

I tried to buy a second but they are all SOLD! Try Kenom!

I found the OEM circuitboard is under-etched, I had to pull the IC out and rewire it (stray conductance from bad etching on Coherent board)but the accuracy of Kenom's circuit then proved to be great.
I'm so happy with this therm-pile meter.

Cheers

PS: LTC1050 is the most sensitive OPAMP I've ever experienced
