Hi everybody. Got my laser is today. The customs declaration on the back classified it as a "gift" and a "flashlight"

Link

Lazerer Rifle 445 1W is amazing lazer. My Rifle is 1111mw peak and 1111mw avarage. So %11 overspec.

Shipping times:

26/11/2011 Ordered the laser.
01/12/2011 Laser went out.
12-12-2011 Laser is at my home.

This is my first 445nm laser. And my first 4 class laser.

My English is not good. Therefore, I will also add more videos and photos. :)

I prepared 17-minute video. Turkish talks in the video. Because I prepared for Turkish forums. But not a problem. Language does not matter for lasers video :)

I hope you like :)

Pros:

Very bright beam
Very good burning performance
Sexy host
quality of the materials

Cons:

Sometimes feel the battery shakes.
Focusable ring is not useful.

Re: Lazerer Rifle445 1W Review

Thanks for this review mate. I got mine a week or so ago now, exactly the same with the heads and bits and I love it but I'd be interested to know if yours is the same as mine...
Do you find the beam disperses to a line/blur at quite close range with this laser, and a huge amount at long distances?
At about 5 metres the spot itself is visibly a vertical line and there is a 'ghost' of a rectangular box visible too with some other split-offs of beam.
Further than that and the line turns to quite a large blur, increasingly so with distance obviously. Is this normal and is there anything to do to change it? The focus ring is tightened fully.

An image of the spot, showing the rectangular box just to the lower left at an angle. This was from about 5 metres...

I'm very new to this hobby so any help appreciated. :)

Re: Lazerer Rifle445 1W Review

^^^Normal. It's basically luck of the draw as to whether you get a diode which produces such a rectangle or not. It's very prominent on yours, but not a problem.

Was that picture taken with or without goggles?

As for the dot expanding, that's 100% normal... 445nm multimode diodes (such as the one this laser uses) have pretty lousy divergence.

Thanks IE.
The picture was taken without goggles but I dropped my ISO right down and chucked the f-stops up so you could actually make out the shape.

So is there any way of rectifying this? What is the square actually caused by? A defect in the diode itself?

Thanks for your help :)

Basically you shouldn't be able to see the square without either goggles, or some fun with camera settings. That's why I was wondering about it.

Unfortunately there is no way to correct this short of actually replacing the diode itself.

Don't want to mislead you on what's causing it... to be honest don't remember, something to do with the dye iirc.

Oh you can see it very clearly with or without glasses. More prominently without glasses. There is also almost a 'bracket' just outside the square box you can see with or without glasses, it's not very prominent in the picture as it's not quite as vivid as the box itself.

I'm glad the divergence is normal. I was quite upset when I first took it outside and shone it at a distant wall. It quite literally flooded the side of a house with the spot it created. It looked like it does when you unscrew the focus ring and shine it on a close wall, just not quite as circular.
Would you say going for the glass lens upgrade is worthwhile, as everyone here seems to rave about it.

Re: Lazerer Rifle445 1W Review

Putting in a glass lens will help a bit in terms of power, but aside from that, don't expect it to do anything else.

It is unusual for the square to be so prominent... I've never seen one that could be seen without goggles since it was always overshadowed by the dot it self.

Hmm, I'll have a think about the glass lens in that case.

Yeah it's very visible. Even in daylight you can see the rectangle next to the dot.
I've emailed Max to see if he can suggest anything.
I'll have to do some research into the cause of these kind of faults in diodes. Have to have a look into what you said about dye iirc. Straight over my head.:can:
Can't even begin to imagine what, apart from an imperfection in a lens of some sort, would cause that kind of shape to be fired out of the thing.

Thanks for the help IE. Much appreciated :thanks:

Re: Lazerer Rifle445 1W Review

If I use Ar Glasses Lens, powers can be 13xxmw? Do you think I buy?

Re: Lazerer Rifle445 1W Review

Great review. Those beam shots are really good considering they don't have fog or smoke! +1

Re: Lazerer Rifle445 1W Review

Excellent review and nice host shots.

I have the 650 on the way (bought it for the host).. hopefully it looks as good as yours does in person. (I guess im a sucker for the arctic style hosts)

Re: Lazerer Rifle445 1W Review

^^^I have three of these hosts at home now.

FYI the "new" rifle host does have a nicer anodize/finish.
