Laserlands 100mw green review

So I figured I would review my new toy...

(I applogize for the crappy photos my SLR is dead and I misplaced the charger :( so I had to use my iPhone)

I ordered: 100mw 532nm Focusable Torch - $72.00 : Laserlands

but appears I actually received

Titans-100 Adjustable 100mW 532nm Laser Torch - $79.00 : Laserlands

Equally as good so no complaints.

Customer Service/shipping

Mary was great on customer service. I received email replies within hours of placing my order to sort out a few issues. The product arrived in just over two weeks which seems about average for imports from china. The laser came packaged in a very nice solid box with foam to pad the laser inside as well as bubble wrap on the outside. It should be noted that there were no batteries included which is not evident from the website but reasonable as it helps to allow a safe passage through US customs.

Initial impressions

The casing to the laser is solid metal with a very strong heavy feel which is very appealing. There is a shutter on top which seems very firm and locks closed into place to prevent slipping into the open position. Below that on the head is the focusing ring which turns very smoothly. The infinity point is well set at one extreme and a focus about 2cm outside the aperture is at the other.

I only have two complaints about the construction. The positive terminal at the key end has 3 pins that create contact for the power. They seem very flimsy and two have already bent over and possibly broken on the first tightening.

The second complaint is there is only a moment switch and no way to keep the beam on without actually holding the button.

Performance

I am extremely happy with the performance that I have seen in the short time I have used this laser. The beam is ~1mm or less at the aperture but expands to 2-3 at about 10ft.

Beam shots (focused to infinity):

Through goggles at about 2feet

I clocked the power to be approximately 130mW (it varied by about 10% based on where it hit the power meter as my power meter is beat to hell from a 10W YAG)

Meter is on bottom scale and multiply by 100 to get power in mW.

I will use our wavemeter tomorrow to get the frequency but if its emission is too broad or in a comb it wont read so dont get your hopes up there.

Burning

The burning power is actually quite impressive relative to what I hoped. I can get through tape in <10 sec if I can actually hit the focal point. It also burns the tape fairly well up to 10ft away focused at infinity. I have also burned everything else I can get my hands on (wood, plastic of multiple colors, colored paper etc) and haven't hit any issues other than green and reflective objects (duh).

Ive popped a balloon holding the laser by hand at up to 10 feet and yet to have tried any greater distances.

Over all I am very happy with this laser and cant put it down for the life of me (unfortunately for the bright spot in my vision right now) and would recommend it for its price range to people looking for something in the 100-150mW region.

NOTE:

I also bought a 200mW red from laserlands and the driver board literally exploded when I placed the battery in it. I trust we will work something out for a replacement or refund so this hasn't yet deterred me from having an overall positive experience.

Battery after explosion:

You can see the resistor that blew off and the burn spot on the glue in the back here:

Fixed the youtube. I'll look up the post to embed in a bit but for now I added links.

Nice review, this looks exactly like my 200mW unit from rayfoss. Check my review which has better photos and tell me if I'm wrong (signature)

Yup same exact case to the laser except you have a real keyswitch and I have a 3 pin keyswitch (i.e. just presses in and doenst turn). I love the case on it so far :-D

Well, but it's still the same host. Faona told me this was a popular host for lasers in China that many companies use...
