Just posted some more pictures to help give you an idea of what the Dazzler all about. Hope they help.

Great pictures in general especialy the new ones showing that it is designed for greater divergence rather than less--lower power density in mW/sq.cm. larger dot thereby extending the flashblind hazard distance into the range where normally eye damage would occur with say a 1.5mRad divergence laser as in this laser hazard chart:
http://www.lasersafetyfacts.com/reso...or-LSF-v02.png

Here is a useful online laser hazard distance calcualtor where if you know the power, divergence and wavelength (precise color) of a visible, continuous wave laser, you can use the online calculator below to determine the eye hazard distances NOHD and ED50,: Laser Pointer Safety - Laser hazard distance calculator

Just putting this information up so noobs and lurkers, which LPF has a lot of, + LPF members without much hazard technical knowledge don't get the idea they can get a dazzler and use it safely without worrying about causing eye damage. Complicated safety, liability, and legal issues are involved.

Very nice post Encap, thanks for the compliment on the new pictures. Also thanks for the calulator, will have to book mark and save that for further use. But the first link the hazard distance chart doesn't seem to want to work.~~~~~ I agree, hopefully nobody will abuse the information.

Was it shipped broken down? I may have to consider getting one. A literal laser gun. Looks about the size of a ruger p90. And it has an electric focusing function? Your a lucky guy Bob. Looking forward to browsing you collection thread when you get around to it. Would rep but haven't the ability right now.

Yes it was broken down when shipped. The first time it was shipped it got turn around by Chinese customs but JL said it happens every now and than. They reshipped, second time was a charm. Yes the button on the back (see picture) is the button for the electronic focusing . It is kinda cool a Laser and a Dazzler you can change on the fly.

I trying the commit to myself on my next home time to post my collection in the Collection thread.( it's a lot of work) but I'm trying to talk myself into it.

How did it come packaged? Is there any type of foam insert box for the complete pistol or for it in pieces?

It was shipped in three boxs, the laser and dazzler in pieces. Had to assemble the dazzler (see pics). They were well packaged, no foam inserts but each piece was individualy wrapped, very nicely. Assembly took five mins. Longer to unwrap. Very happy with my purchase, glad I finally broke down and grabbed one. Just got to use some wisdom with it. It is a awesome piece of work

Now as for scaring BigFoot, being a DPSS would it work proper in a cold forest?
In a home though I can see a burglar banging into walls and telephone poles from temp flash blinding

Heee, I'm thinking in the cold forest it might take a bit to warm up, but once she's fired I'm guessing just like a car she'll take awhile to warm up? ( Bigfoot beware ).

As far as burglars go, in my opinion they have no rights. So they reap what they sow. Have no pity for them. Only that they weren't smart enough to chose the good.

PS the other LED lights up when the pistol is used with the 5V ac adaptor---is red when no batteries are in it or batteries are not fully charged and green when fully charged.
I assume that means you can plug in the ac adaptor and charge the batteries without taking them out.
Would make sense if it can be charged that way--can you imagine a security department with a dozen or more of them and everyone has to unscrew the handle and take the batteries out to charge them every little while---would be chaos---much better to just plug the jack into the pistol to charge it when the unit goes back on the storage rack--is always fully charged when needed for use.

That's what I was thinking also concerning the other led. Trying to come up with a 5.0 power supply, as per JL. Still waiting for a response about the polarity of the plug.

Ps. Ac adapter or D.C. adapter ?

Definitely, this looks like something very likely to get yourself shot by the police.

From a distance it looks like, perhaps oddly shaped, pistol with a dodgy laser sight on that. If you use it in public i couldn't really blame a police officer for mistaking it for exactly that, and possbily shooting you on the spot for waving around a firearm in publc.

As for the actual hazard, that would depend on beam diameter and divergence and obviously power. By the looks of it this could potentially cause eye damage over a significant range (100 meters or so) and would be illegal to use in warfare when fighting in close corners.

I'm not sure it would be considered a problem though, at the distance you can use this to blind someone you could more or less shoot them with a handgun. Since the reverse is also true and it gives away your position very well it would be pretty unpractical as a weapon to maim but not kill.

The basis for these rules of engangement is that it is illegal in warware to use methods that maim enemy soldiers in order to slow down an army since they would have to care for them. This can be widely interpreted however: A sniper could in theory aim for the feet of a soldier to get a non-fatal shot that slows down a platoon. I suppose that would be illegal if it was a tactic, but it's fairly hard to prove.
