All of the photos of 473nm lasers look great very bright for low mw output. Visually how bright are the 473's compared to say 300mw 445nm or 100mw 532nm.
Does a 50mw or 100mw 473 actually have a very bright to the eye beam and dot as in photos of same?

To be frank... at such power... the beam won't be visible in daylight at all...
at night.. it'll be like a 5-10mW Greenie

Cameras always tend to bring out the objectively observed brightness when irl , our eyes don't perceive it the same way at all.

Cameras tend to lie.

Buy 473/589nm for the color.
445nm for the cheap burning power.
638/660 for cheap indoor fun.
532nm for the beam show.

Thanks for the info. YEs the color is a beautiful blue it seems not as annoying as 445.

I looked up the CIE charts of wavelength visual brightness. They show
473nm as 70-72 lumens /watt and 445nm as 20-21 lumens per watt. So 473nm is quite a bit brighter than 445nm at same mw output power.

THen took a look at a member brightness calculator here:
Dot: (445nm 1mw) vs. (473nm 1mw)

Beam is 2.7X greater brightness compared to 445nm and dot is 3.47X the brightness of 445nm

More than good enough for me. I think I need to have a JetLasers 473nm.

Don't fall victim for the CIE chart.
The human eyes automatically adjust the color to maintain the RGB equilibrium.
In other words, when you are using only the 473nm laser ,it'll tend to shift bluer , when you use the 638nm, it'll tend to red shift .

The same happens for RGB lasers, which it'll still appear white to the user despite of sometimes green or blue grabbing the spotlight.

In short, always bring out other blues or a red to bring out the Sky blue.

I guess I will have to get one with as high an output as JetLasers can supply and see what's what.

One of the nice things about JetLasers is that they allow returns for full refund if you are not happy with a purchase, so nothing is set in stone. You are free exchange for something different or return for full refund if you are not 100% happy with a purchase.

UPDATE: I have received my replacement unit, only 8 days after going up to the post office to ship it to Hakzaw1. Jetlasers is once again proving their place as one of the top companies to deal with and Gray, you certainly deserve a raise. The occasional problems that happen always get dealt with quickly and in the most pleasant manner.

A new review is coming for the new unit, although I am not sure if I should just make a new thread and link to it here or if I should add it to the bottom of my review here.

I would just add it here and also update the OP with the new unit but leave the old review up. Shows people how well JetLasers takes care of thier customers.

That is kind of what I am thinking too....off topic but is there a review of your 800mW PL-E Pro JL laser anywhere?

No. I havnt done one. I had an older PL-E Mechanical 700 but the ouput dropped to around 100mW after a 5 min test. Even at 30 second duty cycles it would peak at 350ish. Sent gray a message and had a replacment (the Pro) in the mail quick. Yet another testament of JetLasers fantastic customer support. Cant wait until they decide to do an 589 or something similar.

Ooh 589 would rock my socks off. Ever since I had to pass on the CNI 589 80mW I have been dying to even see one of them. Would just be so glorious I think.

Looking forward to your updated review.

Saw that you said in the GB thread about the replacement "I tried it again this morning and from a cold start my meter stays at 70+ from stattup!"

Wow!!

An update: I allowed the laser to warm up for a few minutes. I then turned on my LPM and to my delight the laser was outputting around 140mW!!!! What?! I checked my LPM with other lasers of known outputs. It is official, I now own a kickass 473!

EDIT: I decided to do an LPM video after that happened, and I got peaks of over 150mW. My LPM does take 1.2 seconds adjustment time, so the 173mW or so you will see in the video is my LPM surging and then balancing out. But after balancing I have seen a sustained 150mW out of this laser. Which is mindboggling to say the least!

The video is loading to youtube right now(didn't capture the sustained 150mW output, but this gives you an idea). I have some errands to run but I will be back later.
