Default Jetlasers Pl-e Pro 532nm 300mW!! Cream Factor-10! *Pic-Heavy*

Hello LPF! As promised here is my second review, however todays tent-pitching Beauty is...
Well as some of you know, my laser virginity was taken by the Pl-E Mini 405nm 300mW laser (She's petite, but boy is she quick to please) from Jetlasers on May 22nd and before even receiving her sweet keister, decided I needed a 532nm to add to the party and chose Jetlaser's Pl-E Pro as it brought girth to the fun! Please Note - As I am new to lasers, I do not yet have the equipment to measure Laser Output Power, Beam Divergence, etc. and consequently, this review will not consist of technical analysis to compare against Jetlaser's performance claims. I think most of you know that they have a 'Reputation beyond Repute'. It is my goal however to present you a thorough look at the Pl-E Pro 532nm 300mW laser and break it down and share with you my unfettered opinion/thoughts and analyze the Pl-E Pro from a consumer point of view. I apologize in advance for not being able to share with you detailed performance measurements, but what I will do is promise you lots of luring photos...more than that girlfriend sophomore year of college provided! I am here to learn and develop my knowledge-base in this hobby, so if you see anything you'd like for me to elaborate on, inaccuracies, recommendations to improve his review, and even questions you'd like me to answer please let me know. Also, know I was in no way compensated, motivated by, or asked by Jetlasers to complete this review and have done so on my own accord so I can make a contribution to the community and share my thoughts/ and details about this laser for others who may be considering purchasing it or another Jetlasers product.

(*Note - As I do not have an LPM, all references to output power will be based on the selected Laser Power Output at ordering from Jetlaser's.)

Selection, Ordering, and Passenger Pigeon Delivery

As I had spoken with Gray and done a lot of research while purchasing the Pl-E Mini, I didn't need to do much in the way of research to decide on ordering this laser. Gabs here also made a fantastic review that tickled my 532nm fancy and can be found HERE, thanks for the spectacular review Gabe! So come Friday morning May 26th, to relieve the searing hole my wallet was burning in my pocket I ordered this unit which took maybe 7 minutes, and had confirmed payment through the PayPal email within 10 minutes total. If money was always this easy to spend, soaring housing costs wouldn't be an issue as we'd all just need a sturdy, quality box

I ordered the Pl-E Pro 532nm Silver model rated at 300mW. I love the way the Silver host looks with that brilliant 532nm beam pouring out of it's glory hole. I decided to go with the Mechanical switch for this unit as this unit is intended for star-identifying, match-igniting, object-burning, panty-dropping Business and I opted for a more reliable switch mechanism over control of the power setting. Gray had the package shipped out Friday morning June 2nd and the package was in transit over the weekend and delivered Monday June 5th. As you can see, all times are local, but it spent a total of 81hrs in transit which was almost double what it took the Pl-E Mini but still really fast!
The package came delivered in a Fedex envelope and a cardboard Jetlasers Box wrapped liberally in bubble wrap.
I will honestly say, it took a bit of effort to unwrap all the tape and bubble wrap from the package, but that's a good thing. I'm really pleased with the effort put forth by Jetlasers to care for their products and ensure a safe delivery. Each individual component of the unit was also wrapped in anti-static sleeves and then abundantly in bubble wrap. You also see the Laser Safety Goggles that I ordered with this laser I already have a pair of Laser Safety Industries glasses, however I like that these offer protection around the eye including the temples and they offer protection for wavelengths 190-540nm and 800-2000nm!

The laser components once removed from anti-static bags.
All the items with the exception of paperwork laid out.
The paperwork that came with the laser.
The Microfiber cloth for cleaning the lens, and the x2 Safety Lockout keys. The Aperture cap pictured here actually came installed on the Laser Head unit. The laser also came with a very nicely put together lanyard made of 550 paracord (550lbs. tensile strength which is appropriate for this fondle-worthy monstrosity! Don't get caught letting your friends wife holding it. I remember this stuff from my days floating gracefully from airplanes, it's good stuff and the camouflage is a nice touch.)

Alas, admire the Joystick
Okay, the host is remarkably bigger than it's Pl-E Mini counterpart. I can't say it enough...the millwork and machining on Jetlaser's hosts is remarkable! Each component is beautifully crafted and detailed. All cuts are precise and the lines flow and provide a very nice texture while holding the laser. I really admire the Heatsinking and the machining on the Laser Head unit. There is a great deal of detail in the Heatsinking, Focus Ring, and Crown and it's clear a lot of thought went into designing the Laser Head unit. They did a great job prepping everything before anodizing as there are no rough edges, burrs, or imperfections. However, there is a scratch along the Focus Ring and Crown *JETLASERS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS, and I received this laser in perfect condition* that was my fault. I decided to attach one of the Safety Lockout keys to the lanyard for simplicity, and it scratched the Focus Ring/Crown when I picked it up and the key swung over and hit the side. However, the anodizing is superb though I don't think it's as robust as the black that is on my Pl-E Mini. The silver does seem to be more prone to scratching. The tolerances are very tight throughout the laser, I would be surprised if Jetlasers doesn't hand match/fit all the components together before anodizing and final assembly. Both lasers I have received from them are built VERY well and I'm confident they're assembled by hand and they're very patient while doing so. It's rare you see this quality of craftsmanship these days, especially from reputable companies (in general). Nothing about this laser feels 'mass-produced'.

Here are the SPECS from Jetlaser's website:
Dimensions - 40mm(Diameter)x 275mm(Length) OR
1.57inches(Diameter)x10.8268inches(Length)
Net Weight - 580g *Without Batteries (1.278lbs)
Power Supply - x1 18650/26650 Lithium OR 5v Wall Adapter
Working Voltage - 4.2v
Diode Life Time - 6000hrs.
Beam Divergence - Around 2mRad
Beam Diameter at Aperture - 1.3mm (*Adjustable)
Transverse Mode - Near Tem00
Operating Mode - CW + Momentary ON/OFF for Mechanical
Switch; CW + Pulse for Coded Switch
Working Temperature - 15-35 degrees C (59-95 degrees F)
Warranty - One Year

You can see the matching marks along the Focus Ring and Body of the Laser head that indicate infinity when aligned. (*Note - The Pl-E Mini's do have the indicator on the Focus Ring however they DO NOT have a matching one along the body. Keep this in mind if this is important to you while deciding which model to choose).
I never get tired of looking at this end of the beast. The lens is crystal clear and difficult to see. At first I thought it was slightly down inside the Focus Ring as looking inside, I could see blemishes along the inside-wall of the Focus Ring cavity as it was so clear! However once a reflection hit, I could see the lens is seated right at the base of the threads for the Aperture Cap. I am not sure if it's glass or acrylic, but I wouldn't mind convincing my lady we should use this material for our next shower enclosure. Removing the Aperture Cap is easy, and the edges of the Crown are not sharp and do not hurt your fingers in the process. It screws in and out very smoothly without catching anywhere and the threads aren't so small that it's difficult to get started, Ah the teenage years*sigh*. Jetlasers really thought about all the details when designing their lasers!
Notice the nice knurling on the Aperture Cap.
Here you see the detailed millwork on the Crown/Focus Ring/ Heat-sinking and the extra little details that enhance the unit. Even the shallow curves along the length of the Heat-sinking (can be seen at the top of the unit in this picture) that separate the 3 slots that run the length of the Heat-sinking at the 12; 4; and 8 o'clock positions on the Laser Head body) are extremely well done, rounded and consistent. Again, no imperfections can be seen along these edges. I'm not a machinist, but I think the machining on the Pl-E Pro/Mini is a work of art and precision! You can also see the hashmarks along the laser body for aligning the Focus Ring which stays in place when set. One thing I must say is that though the operation of the Focus Ring is very smooth and works well, if feels slightly more 'mushy/soft' in it's operation compared to my Pl-E Mini and the range-of-focus (distance the Focus Ring needs to travel to focus the laser) is not nearly as tight as it is on the Mini either. I do like the operation of the Focus Ring on the Pl-E Mini more, however I DO NOT have a problem with the Pro's Focus Ring. One very minor and unimportant thing I would like to see changed though it in no way inhibits the operation or functionality of the laser and is purely cosmetic preference to me - I would like it if the small rounded grooves that run vertically along the Crown and Focus Ring would align with each other as they do not. Again, this is no big deal and is more about my anal(you sicko)-retentive preferences than a reflection on Jetlasers craftsmanship.
Another look at the Laser-head unit showing the detailed machining throughout the Heat-sinking, Focus Ring, and Crown and the tight tolerances to which the unit was assembled.

As previously stated, I ordered this unit with the Mechanical Switch option which consists of a Constant ON/OFF (large matte button on image below) and a Momentary ON/OFF (small chrome button on image below) and as you may know, mechanical switches are more reliable than their coded/electrical counterparts. Working your way back from the front of the laser right behind the Heat-sinking, we come to the x3 Status LED's this laser is equipped with followed by the Momentary ON/OFF button and lastly the Constant ON/OFF button. I must say, I love that Jetlasers provides LED's on their lasers and this was a must-have feature ever since I first saw the older Wicked Lasers high-end models years ago (I believe back then it was the Sonar?!). While the coding WL uses on their lasers electrical switches I like in theory as they provide an extra level of lockout to keep people from activating the laser and provide options for power settings, however I feel that in practice that would be an annoyance after the nostalgia wore off. (*Note - I have never handled/operated a WL product and this is purely postulation) I like that when you want to operate the Jetlasers, you activate the button and you're rainin' beams (more on this later). On the opposing side of the buttons, we have 2 ports: 1) Remote Switch and 2) 5v AC In, and the tripod-mounting corn hole. I have not yet tried it, but if my understanding is correct, you can operate the laser simply with a 5v wall power supply without having the batteries inserted and even the battery tube removed if you prefer. However, keep in mind as soon as you've plugged the unit in it will be powered up and you will not have the protection of the Safety Lockout as when you are using batteries.

Here is the Battery Tube and you can barely see the yellow Battery Orientation sticker on the inside. This laser DOES NOT have the orientation etched on the host as the Pl-E Mini does. For the sake of Space, here are two other pictures available of the Battery Tube if you'd like to see...

Battery Tube Front showing Threads
Battery Tube with 18650 sleeve insert
The Pl-E Pro 532nm laid out so you can see the components and how they mount each other.

Turnin this Baby on, and making her SHINE!
As with the Pl-E Mini's, the Battery/Batteries MUST be inserted negative first (towards the Laser Head). Being a DPSS 532nm laser (This includes the DPSS 473nm Pl-E Pro as well) the unit only requires x1 26650 or x18650 though I opted for an AW 26650 3.7v 4500mAh batteries. I have not tried an 18650 in this unit so I cannot speak about performance/run-time using them. For run-time with the 26650, I charged the battery before receiving the laser and have yet to need to change it since I got the unit on the 5th.
Powering up the laser requires one of the Safety Lockout keys to be inserted (there is a small arrow on the back, but what I find easier is to insert the tab in the notch to the left [the two notches are orientated at 90 degrees so it's easy to tell the left and right one] and turn clockwise 90 degrees to power the unit ON. Once powered on you will see the x3 LED's have become RED and the laser is 'hot'. One thing I love about this is you can remove the key once it is powered on and you do not have to leave the key dangling out of the laser to keep it powered on. I don't know if this is typical for other lasers, but I have seen keys similar to this (used on different devices, not lasers) that the key remains in the lock until deactivating/powering down which was annoying and I'm glad that is not the case here. (*NOTE - I feel responsible for saying this, though I shouldn't have to but there's always some joker who didn't get the message until after they've done something stupid. Once powered ON, the laser is LIVE and when either of the buttons are actuated 300mW+ of intensely glorious 532nm laser-light will come forth and can have unforgiving effects on an unprotected Dome-viewer(eyeball). So think of this as a 'safety' on a firearm and PLEASE have the laser pointed in a safe direction free of any possible glass/mirrors or reflective surfaces BEFORE powering ON the unit!)

Here you can see the two notches on the Safety Lockout (at 1 and 10 o'clock positions). On the right, you can see the Pl-E Pro 532nm 300mW with it's x3 RED LED's indicating the unit is Powered ON.
[Warning-you may need some towels...or a sock for this next part]
Now you may either actuate the Constant ON (larger) button to activate the laser as you would a flashlight, OR the Momentary ON (small chrome) button to activate the laser as long as you keep the button depressed. When you press the Constant ON/OFF switch, the Laser will activate however the LED's will remain RED. When you actuate the Momentary ON/OFF, the x3 LED's will becomeRED/BLUE and will remain that way until you release pressure on the button which in turn the LED's return to RED. Now that we've tickled it's buttons, Well color me Jolly...GREEN LIGHT!
I do not know how to describe the 532nm light as in person it's mesmerizing and brilliant. I would say it's a blend between a Lime and an Emerald or maybe a 'Royal Green' if such a color existed(Yet we have periwinkle...) I stated earlier, but I'll say it again...The 532nm shining from the silver host is just epic! I love the way they complement each other and if I were to order another 532nm laser today, it would have to be silver as well! I'm sure looks great with a black host as well, but there's just something about the silver that has my fancy long past tickled. This thing is BRIGHT, no exaggeration, it will flood the room with green light from the backsplash. You can moderate this some by having the dot on something black/dark that absorbs the light but it still will consume the room especially in a dark room. Today in Colorado we had a high of 96 degrees and 42% Humidity and totally clear skies for most of the day and I could easily, without any effort to find it, see the brilliant dot on my fence ~ 50ft away, and fence up the street >1500ft away! Need to say, this laser is so bright I feel that you really should have Laser Safety Goggles on when using indoors even in a well lit room. I gave a minuscule glance at the dot at 15ft without wearing LSGoggles but avoided it by looking to the side or down while observing in my living room which was well lit, and even then your eyes can feel the intensity but I've worn LS Goggles every other time operating the lasers indoors as the intensity is slightly uncomfortable compared to the 300mW 405nm Pl-E Mini I have that is more modest on your eyes indoors, regardless LS Goggles should be worn but that's your decision to make for yourself.

As I said, the 532nm with the silver host go together like white on rice! You can also see the location of the lens at the base of the inner threads for the Aperture Cap.

For the Lasgasm you've been waiting for...GREEN BEEMS! And a quick message from Yours Truly
I'll let this section speak for itself, but I do want to mention a few things before proceeding. First, I am pleasantly satisfied with the Pl-E Pro, it's Craftsmanship, Design, Execution, and Performance! They nailed this one, and I'm sure Jetlasers will always be a treasured part of my collection (when it begins to grow and become diverse hehe). The assembled laser with battery is solid and feels quite hefty which isn't a bad thing. However if you're looking for a smaller laser, or size/weight is a factor in your decision I would recommend looking at the Pl-E Mini lineup as they are noticeably smaller and easier to handle. However for me, there is something nice about having a large host which is something I didn't think I would ever say as my taste tends to lean more towards fun-size portability. It's not too heavy that I would feel strain holding/using it for longer periods of time, but I certainly wouldn't want to carry it in my pocket (don't go confusing the ladies gents!). With the units length, the weight really balances out well. As I understand it, the duty cycle for this laser is 3 minutes ON followed by 1 minute OFF, though I have been much more conservative than that, I still have not noticed a temperature difference of the Laser Head unit after having the laser activated...that fabulous Heat-sinking is ribbed to maximize cooling during intense moments of stimulation. I cannot speak to battery life as the the laser is still running off the first charge since I've had it and I have not seen a noticeable drop in output power thus far. All in all, I'm very impressed with this Laser and would not only recommend it to anyone in the market for a handheld laser, but I would consider (and am already planning on) ordering the unit again both in higher power rating of the 532 as well as a MINI and other wavelengths. I'm so impressed with Jetlasers and happy with their products and service, I have already ordered my third unit from them [a Pl-E Mini 473nm 50mW] and would love to add a Beam Expander soon as well. As with many things, it is often advised to go with trusted hobbyists/builders as you get great hand-made quality items that have been patiently and meticulously assembled for reasonable and often even cheaper prices than buying from a manufacturer and I'm sure that is more than the case here on LPF! However, if you want to purchase from a reputable company and receive hand-made quality, reliable laser with a slick design and great performance....Jetlaser's definitely deserves your consideration and research. If you have any questions, or things you'd like me to check out or take pictures of for you, please just ask. Thank you for your time reading this review, and welcoming me into this community. So Without further ado....

BEAMS
(*Note - Steam was used for many of these pictures, however the beam is still very visible in darker rooms and even somewhat visible in good lighting (but not outside during daytime) without performance enhancers)

Okay, so I love this picture! No steam/smoke/fog or the like was used in this picture. As is expected with DPSS, the beam on this Jolly-Rod is tight!
Here are a few with a Pl-E Mini 405nm 300mW!

Thanks for tuning in Lads and Ladies. Stay tuned for review of Pl-E Mini 473nm 50mW! Cheerio.

Another one! My friend how can I rep you if you post reviews like machine gun bullets?
I've read just part of it so far, but I'll go through it later. Still I think the review is of a high quality. I'm interested in it as JL 800 mW 532 nm was one of two candidates for high power and great beam specs 532 nm DPSS laser. Finally I went for 1.4+ W Optotronics RPL-II as the winner - better beamspecs and much more power together. Expensive with short duty cycle, but I think I can beat this. I needed portable and no other 532 nm on market is that powerful and with such a beam specs (yes, there were 1 mrad Optos but much lower power and I'm not aware of anyone manufacturing better than 1.2 mrad in portable now).

Safe place to test them in the dark, I guess.

Another top notch review Av8tor, good job!

@ 3D - The bathroom has always been a good place to show off the beams of our lasers, especially lower powered ones, or ones such as the 405nm that just don't photograph well because of their wavelength.

It is easy to enhance the beam using the steam from hot water running, or the shower running.
It's a good cheap alternative when you don't have a fog machine.

As a matter of fact, Av8tor mentions this in his review, as quoted below.

"BEAMS
(*Note - Steam was used for many of these pictures, however the beam is still very visible in darker rooms and even somewhat visible in good lighting (but not outside during daytime) without performance enhancers)"

It is the color known as chartreuse.
Be careful with this type laser. Unlike diode type lasers which are rugged an able to withstand abuse crystal based lasers cannot. Dropping it, standing it on end and falling over can could misalign the crystals. That's bad.

By the way, that was a good review.

True, they are sensitive to mechanical impacts. Take care. Luckily PL-E Pro has a very stabile tailcap so it can stand well on horizontal flat surface. Problem occurs if you hit it with clothes or something when you are not careful enough.

Very nice review!
I want to get a JL eventually.
I hope Jetlasers never does what wickedlasers did back in 2015, because a lot of people would be crushed if they stopped all orders to the U.S.
I always feared they will eventually, but at the same time they make a lot of money on us based customers so I don't think they ever will.
