In the world of laser mfgrs. JETLASERS continues to set ENVIABLE NEW LIMITS for the competition to try to keep up with. Case in point; The JETLASERS 532nm. MODEL PL-E 600mW. Laser. I received one of these BEASTS lately from our friend GRAY LI at JETLASERS to review, so hold onto your seats & away we go :D

After unwrapping what seemed to be miles of bubble wrap, I finally

reached the carrying case which is composed of VERY STURDY

polyurethane plastic, with two snap shut latches.

Upon opening this handy case, I found that each & every piece in the

case was wrapped in individual, sealed, bubble wrap bags. Even the case

itself was lined with bubble wrap, ultimately guaranteeing a safe arrival of

your purchase ! After unwrapping each piece, here's what I had;

#1 - A fine pair a safety glasses, enveloped in a hard sided, zippered case, complete with a micro-fiber cleaning cloth.

#2 - A well constructed, universal Li-Ion battery charger, which will accept batteries of ALL SIZES. Even the huge 26650 size. (included)

#3 - An adapter tube which will allow the owner to use an 18650 battery if he chooses to. The PL-E was made to use a 26650 though.

#4 - The PL-E Laser itself, & is it a MONSTER !!!

She is an IMPRESSIVE 255mm. long with a hefty 40mm. diameter & weighs

in (on digital scales) at a VERY HEALTHY 1.75 pounds with battery. I TOLD

you it was a BEAST. She's VERY PRECISELY MACHINED out of the HIGHEST

GRADE ALUMINUM, & all of the edges have been finely finished & polished.

No burrs or sharp edges on this baby, except for the COMBAT CROWN,

but that is to be expected with this type of head. As stated earlier, she

will run on 1 X of either an 18650 or 26650 battery & the wavelength is

532nm's. There are TWO modes of operation, either CW or PULSE (strobe)

I found the beams divergence to be less than 2.0mrad. &is also adjustable.

Beam Diameter at Aperture is supposed to be less than 2.0mm. but I found

that this particular laser hit that number right on the head, but since the

laser IS adjustable (they measured 10cm. at 10cm.) perhaps I was a bit

off with my measurement. Either way, this is a VERY RESPECTABLE Beam

Diameter at ~ 10cm. To cool this mighty laser, you might think that the

heat-sink was of a unique style in some way, or even TEC cooled, not so.

With the weight being 1.75 pounds & very little of that, battery weight,

this baby relies on NATURAL AIR COOLING, which means that there is NO

COOL DOWN PERIOD. A CONTINUOUS DUTY CYCLE !!!! AMAZING ..... I ran

this one for over 15min straight, & the business end stayed right inside the

stated working parameters of 15-35 degrees C. VERY IMPRESSIVE from

my point of view. This laser is almost like a hand-held labby. You only

need to turn it off to change the battery. Also, even with such a

continuous duty cycle, this laser stayed in TEM MODE OO & produces a

BRILLIANT, EMERALD GREEN COLOR. Working voltage as well as Pulse

voltage is 3.7 Volts DC. Although this laser IS adjustable, a 2.5mm. DIA.

Beam produces a very nice diameter size, suitable for most of your needs.

Of course, I saved the best for last, mW. out-put !!! Although this is a

600mW. rated, Class IV laser, when I measured the out-put of this

particular laser on my LASERBEE DELUXE LPM (THANKS JERRY), the mW's

ran right up to 800, YEAH, 800mW's in a hurry, & stayed there right on

through my 15min. test run with VERY LITTLE deviation. I couldn't believe

what I saw, so I made sure my LASERBEE LPM had a fresh battery in it, &

ran the test again, with almost identical results !!! WOW, I was floored !!!

Well, to sum this review up in a few words, this laser is constructed like a

BATTLESHIP, with the armor plating doing a VERY THOROUGH JOB of Heat-

Sinking. I am currently creating a collection of photographs involving this

laser with lenses, prisms, 1st surface mirrors, & diffraction gratings of

various types, but don't quite have them finished yet. I DID though, post

a couple of beam shots during a recent foggy night, in the MULTI-MEDIA

Section of the Forum if you're interested in a sneak pre-view. The other

photos will be posted in this thread as soon as I get them all compiled the

way I want them to be seen. I HOPE y'all can wait, but things are a bit

hectic around here with the up-coming HOLIDAYS & DECORATING Etc, Etc.

So PLEASE cut me some slack or I'll make ya wait till after the 1st of the

year !! J/K I won't do that. Hope you enjoyed this review & I welcome any

comments or criticism. Questions are welcomed also & I'll try to answer

them to the best of my ability.

Well, that's all folks, for now at least :thanks: for reading this, I'm grateful.

 Your friend & fellow laser nut, phoenix77 / rob

Although your mileage may vary....

JL tries to send out only O'SPec units- This way a few years down the road it should never drop below Spec.

Details about the new choices on the switching/code/modes etc will be posted tonite in the Jetlasers GB (do-over) Thread- since it seems that many have likes and dislikes about all this JL is just doing what the always do- make options available that all will find to their liking.

We still offer your choice of direct ship from JL China(~$30 for a singlePL-E) which is best for those not CONUS or having your buy shipped to me in Tx-( slightly less ship costs to you) for another close inspection( pics sent if I see anything that you may not like) and LPMed on three meters including one with a graph- I normally do 1 to 2 minute graphs but on these PL-Es I can graph pretty much as long as you like.

As there are set up to be as stable as possible when warmed up- its normaly for them to bounce around a bit til warmed then stable until they get hot at which time the output again is less stable- This IMO is due to heat expansion of parts when going from cold- to warm to hot.

As if the PL-e is not long enough( worlds longest IIRC) when you add the extension tube allowing two batts it grows into a bigger monster-- NOT long enough you say?? then add a JL Beam Expander- with the 10X (no long in stock) it becomes about as long as your forearm.

Needless to say the StarWars fanboyz and excited about a real Light Sabre.

As we are trying to avoid batts in the box with lasers(when sending across borders)- I have in stock some kingkong gold JL 26650s- @ $10 for flattops and $11 for protected cells(button tops) plus shipping. actual 4000 mAh

and 14500(TiB) and 16340. More are on they way including good quality 18650s.
BEs 5X are on the way and I have two 3X here ready to ship --$50 and $60 each (plus shipping)with adaptors for several JL and other makers lasers.

@Jeff Z- your batts are here and your PL-E and Ti-B are on the UPS truck today-
LPMing and inspecting tonite-- I will post your LPM graph ( 5 min) in the GB OP.

Any Qs should be sent to me PM and/or Email(yahoo or gmail) if I cant answer I will fwd to Mr Gray-
WE ask that you order via me as you will get the same exact service & price as you would if you contact Gray-(maybe better)
He has lots of work and is not at JL just for the forum members.
WE are all 'Special' and all want our laser to be cherry picked- so asking for all that is ....a little... selfish ( for lack of a better/nicer term).

Thanks Rob for the super write up/ review. Hope your situation has improved enough that you will get to keep this JL. Merry christmas rob- my love to you and the Mrs.

I (heart) my PL-E. The thing is indeed quite a beast.

Can't wait for the 800mW model to come out here soon.. and see how overspec'd it really is..

There is a vid at YTube with one on a 15min(iirc) test- By JL (Wang)

There quite a few JL vids to look at..btw.

Hard to tell the average from it but my guesstimation is ~ 860mW- with peaks over 900mW--

In theory you *may* be able to run one til the battery dies- I strongly suggest that you do not do that- its pointless and IMHO you should not get a new one under the warranty for 'testing to death'.

I will be posting a 5 min graph tonite on Jeff's 500/532-- PL-E in the GB OP.

its still quite the 'brick' but easier to read than a real brick-

its easy to read with auto scroll down tho..

Wow, I saw the "Jetlasers" review, and had to read it, since I've got one coming. Then I see it's a PL-E 600mW, mine's the 500mW version. When I read all your positive impressions, and then the +30% overspec. results, I couldn't wait to get mine! Then, while reading all the reply's, I saw Hakzaw saying that mine was on the way, and ready to be checked out. Doesn't get much better than that!

BTW rob, excellent review. :gj:

@ BowtieGuy, Thanks for liking my review ! In this post I will include the Photos I took. Please bear in mind that these were done with my Phones Camera, & that the PL-E is SO BRIGHT, well, you'll see by the Pix. All were done indoors, ambient lighting, & NO SMOKE !!! Hope they were worth the wait.

@Hak, You are soooo correct Re; :na:eek:ld farts like rob and i get a break on form--

same with 'works-in-progress' threads--
Yeah, gettin' old stinks !!! Following are the anticipated photos of the JETLASERS PL-E. The 1st one is a meter shot which you probably can't read, but it says 868mW.
Peak, dropping to 835mW. after 17min. 26sec. (used a stopwatch).

Well, they they are. I know that they're pretty pitiful, but give me time, I promise to get better. Maybe next review I'll have access to a REAL camera. Not too much one can do with a Phone Camera. Also, they would have looked better if I had added some different colored lasers, all that GREEN, PWEW !!! Thanks for lookin' everyone, sorry they weren't better quality. JETLASERS PL-E 600mW. Model, Peaking near 900mW. maybe even higher, if I had fully charged the battery. ALL the photos were taken with the battery that came with the laser, with-out the battery being charged. I imagine I could have got 900+mWs. with a FULLY CHARGED battery.-------------- rob

Nice pics all the same rob- I will +rep you when i can..

I have a few in stock and more on the way of the 26650 gold 'King Kongs'
a good nic for these as they are really great 4000mAh batts-- Either they are more mAh than described or other makers of 26650s are overstating the power of theirs.

the price is very reasonable and only 1$ more for protected button tops too.

If anyone needs some PM me and I will do my best for you.. CONUS buyer should have no problem and the shipping is cheap HOWEVER as I am happy to ship anywhere else- if you have any issues with delivery I am not going to send another battery to you for free.

They now (at all USA POs)are asking for any packages going outside the USA if there are any Li batts or perfume etc in the box--- ( all are seen as a fire hazard for shipping by air.)

please do not ask JL to ship batts to you with a laser in the same box--your package is more likely to be seized for the batts than the lasers.

Just man up and buy locally- get them from me or Larrydfw or offer to pay the extra shipping from china to be sent w/o any laser.

Its not at all about 'free' batteries-- boxes sometimes get opened and inspected randomly-- do you want someone to 'play' with your laser before you get to?? maybe take an eye hit? maybe drop it or run it too long? Or see how powerful it is and seize it/??

And you are a fool if you think that just because others did not have any of these things happen that you will somehow be as lucky--

2 cents and a little more. hk

Thanks Len. IDK WHY I didn't charge up the battery 1st thing. Too eager I guess. The battery is being charged now & I'll meter the PL-E when it's done. I bet 900+mW with a full charge. I'll post here.with the updated output. Rob

I know why as I have done that same thing many times- who wants to wait of a charging batt?? gotta see dem photons NOW!!

I tested a 500mW PL-E Tue nite for Bowtieguy Jeff Z. it peaked at 647mW- big deal for many other sellers but that's common with a few like Gray /JL-
Thus even with age any drop in power should make it still spec or higher.
