Well here is the latest shipping schedule, it's accurate as of today (looks like you'll get yours in about 2 weeks):

(can someone tell me how to embed an image in the post, not just create a thumbnail?)

Just upload your image to imageshack.us for example, copy the direct link and then use this code:

Good luck. Wicked Lasers just made the Banned list for the US. So all packages from WL are going to be seized. This comes from the WL forum. I'd cancel my order and get my money back. Especially members from CA, they seem have been seizing WL packages even before the ban.

I guess we'll find out. Although listening to TJ on this subject is a bit like listening to Hitler discuss racial harmony, as he is the caped crusader when it comes to anti-WL rhetoric.

If I do get mine next week I look forward to waving it in your face. And as far as refunds go, I'm not worried - they can be slow and difficult but everyone who had demanded a refund has gotten it (or, at least, the laser).

They're in china. they'll just make up a new company name and origin address to ship from, and rinse and repeat as often as needed.

I think they posted the banning on WLs forum to get them out of the double your money back guarantee.

While I agree that with WL "the journey" sux balls, in the end everyone either gets their lasers or a refund. People who have defective lasers can send them back and get it fixed (or, more likely, a new one) although many people have just given up.

I'd be more interested in stories about people who were truly screwed. Everyone knows their customer service sucks and they are slow, but every time I've gotten an email or spoken on the phone to someone they are courteous and professional and DO seem interested in making customers happy.

They're just not used to dealing with this volume. If you are persistent you WILL get your laser or a refund or a repair. It's going to be an annoying journey, but it will happen.

And lets also keep our eye on the big picture - what do you EXPECT in a $300, 1W laser from China??

I have every confidence that, eventually, I'll get my Arctic and if I'm lucky it won't need repairs (plenty of people have gotten lasers that were fine, and we all know that most of the time, people who make the effort to write and shout to the world do so because they are pissed off about something).

Once I get the Arctic I will stick it under the bed and hope that WL goes under or stops making it or stops shipping them here, because then the infamous "light saber laser" will be worth even more :)

Help with attaining a perfect point

I too got my laser last month!

I only got to 'properly' use it a few days ago.

With it, I was able to light firecrackers from a distance with the host on a tripod.

Also carried out a extended newspaper burn test with a handlens in order to focus it properly and was really impressed at the burning power of the arctic when focused.

But when I examined the laser point closely, I found that there are a lot of lens problems!!!

The beam actually spreads out quite a lot and there are kinda like 'arms' on either side of the point!

+ there is some kind of odd projection around the point itself.

I took a few pics. Check these out -

Arms of the point

Unusual 'point'

A better view

ABCD0001.jpg

Its almost below the beam

ABCD0002.jpg

Looks like a square projection below the 'point'

The exterior lens attachment was removed when I was taking these pics and the lens was just cleaned using the lens pen!

What could be the problem??(The 'arms' were there out of the box!)

I think that the "bar" that is seen near the main beam (which is not round with normal lenses) is an image of the edge of the surface that the laser die is mounted to.
I have a "lab" version of the 445nm and it's clearly visible at low power. The bar also moves with the diode and not the lens when the lens is rotated.

^Thanks! :)

Though it still kinda burns, but its not that effective! (maybe due to the spreading)

Any remedies for that? If its diode related then a lens change wont help! :(

Hi guys, I got my arctic a couple of days ago (approx a week ago). I had ordered back in June.

Only tested it a couple of times, indoors, in a room with no windows, onto a flat black surface, with the WL goggles, and not staring directly at the dot.

Dear God it's bright! It came with the Sanyo batteries (I ordered 2 of them). Charger died 2 mins after it was plugged in. I made sure my battery was in the charger before plugging it in. (I've been a lurker for a while, I have a couple of weaker lasers, never anything approaching 1W)

I happen to live close to an airport, so shining it at full power into the sky is a risky proposition. I probably won't get to do anything major outside until I get a chance to go camping up north.

So anyway even with the limited use, I loved it so much, I decided to buy a second one that a member was selling on here LOL. So I will hopefully now have 2 Arctic G2's that I have absolutely no idea what to do with, but who cares!

I also just bought a pair of AW IMR 18650's from Lighthound, along with the Ultrafire WF-139 Charger. Will this charger also be able to charge the Sanyo's that came with my Arctic?

Look at the "Arctic Beast" thread - it tells how to adjust the focus on them.

445nm lasers focused at infinity have a pretty wide beam up close. Some folks, myself included, have a "close up" lens that's great for focusing the beam to a pin point at close range. Burns stuff super fast.
