Or if you're feeling REALLY lucky, more WL lasers.

Awsome laser, finally, I think you're the first forum member to recieve one.

Would you please take more videos of it in action, preferably supply us with as much scientific data as possible?
Current draw, battery life, stability, duty cycle, heatsinking, divergence of both axis' ?

We'd be greatly grateful. :D

This is the reason i think there is no need to shut this topic
Other members already received their arctics!
spdkilz - he even posted pictures! but the topic was deleted. - i made a link to google cache of that topic - so u can see the pictures.
electron - claimed he received, but vanished soon after. 3 days without posting now.

so - these are the members that HAVE ARCTIC right now. (one is confirmed with pictures and everything.

so in my honest opinion: this topic is worth staying
But let`s stick to news about actually receiving the laser itself - then it can be a good and nice topic.
regards

This is an attempt to allow people to see the laser, to post their laser, and to allow people to relax about whether they are being shipped or not.

If it becomes another "Let's chat about the Arctic" or "Let's bash WL some more" or "You sukzorz, I rulzez 1!1!1!!" type thread it too will "be sent to the cornfield"

Keep it under control and you keep it. Lose control and you lose it

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** -- I'm feeling like such a "DAD" right now :(

I think this topic would pretty useful if we would post all the materials we have gathered thus far with arctic details.
so let's start -
MAXIMUM PC:
unboxing
First pictures

SPDKILZ - LPF member:
Pictures from google cached deleted LPF topic.
Youtube video.

88killsyou - youtube user - has some videos:
lights cig - Don't smoke - smoke is the main risk factor for lung cancer. Smoking kills - REALLY!
burning leaf 15ft away
arctic s3 (this pretty much an accident...)
with smoke

6969raiderbenny - youtube user (is this you, @vegas??)
arctic in action finally.

ok - thus far this all the data i got!
can you guys post some more news!? any good reviews?
please add on!

regards!

They've sent one to Electron who has one of the best meters Coherent Inc. makes, he just doesn't like to post about his lasers, at all.

You are pretty right!
the problem is that there must be something wrong with electron!
check his statistcs:
he's been inactive for 3 days now!
maybe something bad happened? I don't know - and i hope he is ok
-FYI: he changed his signature, and then he vanished! his last post he said he got the arctic with him - that's all.
since he is an old member, reliable btw, we don't think he may be joking.
but it is strange he is away for so long.

@prototype - ok - you knew all that before... i'd guess but i wanted to show the link to his profile... and besides - the other users that weren't following the discussion thread didn't got to see electron's last message.

To complete this you should also add pictures from owners that show the bad divergence:

Dots from 20 feet day/night:

Reading owners description it seems that WL somehow focused the beam for short distance to burn rather than long distance for clean dot.

Probably because most videos and major interests are about burning things rather than reaching long distances, and that's what makes the sales :)

by pics... semms that the beam diameter is NOT 1.5mm.........but like all others builds... about 5mm.
i think 199 is a ghood price.. but is a price fos TEST UNITS.... wl does not still have the right knowhow ....to how construct it properly....... i will wait for months before to buy it.. or wait for a CNi ROUND BEAM.....

You so totally fried your CCD sensor. What did that poor CCD ever do to you?

On the other hand, dot profile does appear awsome, it's not round but it's not line too,
on DIY 445nm laser, me and ReNNo measured, we focused the dot to ... well, one would say "pinpoint" but it does not make sense,

Anyhow, when the dot's focal point is at 3.5 meters, the line is 15 x 2 mm exactly.
Or wait, maybe 10 x 2 mm .

I can't recall correctly. But it was definetly much worse than that.

When focused to infinity, it would also appear much more square-ish, on your pics it appears like it has some eliptical shape.
Or am I seeing wrong?

Yes.
1. Electron received his arctic.
2. He decided to power it up in a funhouse mirror-hall without safety glasses.
3. He can no longer post because he can't see his computer screen (or anything for that matter).

either that or "He was only here for the Arctic"

Edit: Oops. My condolences for Electron's loss :(

With this diode it would be near impossible to make a 1w round beam with good size and divergence. You'd have to run the thing at more than 1.5amps to make up for the optics losses and cutting off the edges of the square. Not to mention youd spend a lot more than 200 on just the materials, much less making a profit on a product.

Hi Prototype,
Electron had a death in his immediate family right after his last post saying the eagle has landed.
He said he would get back with me in a week or so.
I'm sure he'll post a full review after he gets back.

Ah that sucks, I hope everything turns out alright.

Sorry if I wan't clear enough, these are not my pics, these are pics gathered from different artic users, I put them here because a member started gathering them in this thread and I wanted to help him.

Personally I bought my two 445nm from two great builders here at LPF and I enjoy them a lot :)

Here are two others shots I found recently again from two different artic users (with their comment):

The "dot" 17 feet away against a black surface.
The height is exactly 0.5 inches at 205 inches away.

The picture was taken 25 feet away with 1/500 exposure
