December, 28, 2014 I contacted Gearbest representative May about reviewing the SkyRay 4000LM 5 x Cree XM-L2 (Sky - Ray 4000LM 5 x Cree XM - L2 LED 3 - Mode Highlight Flashlight (4 x 18650 Battery) and Free Shipping) for Gearbest. After a little talk she passed me along to Kathy and some time later it arrived.

So on to the review.
Looks:
In my opinion it looks very good.
Right out of the box it had very few scratches or marks on the body. It had one blemish in the anodizing and a few dents on the host before the anodizing was applied.
The bezel had a frosted appearance and one gray mark.
In the battery compartment it was quite rough around the edges (literally), and it could potentially scratch up some batteries if they aren’t put in carefully.
Functionality:
This flashlight has the button/switch on the side as seen in the pictures; the button/switch works fine but is a little wobbly and loose. I think the button must have been put in backwards, because I rotated it around and it fit better with less wobbling.
The flashlight can easily do a tail-stand.
MODES-
Starting with the flashlight off the first click of the switch turns the light on high, the second click it goes to low (which seems more like medium than low), a third click turns the light off again. To access the strobe mode the button is pushed and held on, after 3 seconds the strobe turns on. The strobe is accessible from any mode and when the strobe is switch of, by a single click, the flashlight goes into the previous mode if came from. The strobe is “medium speed strobe”
Brightness, run time:
From what I can tell these are actually XM-L2 emitters.
Just visually comparing this light to my C8 with a XM-L2, this light is roughly twice the brightness. So very roughly 2000 lumens.
This next part is where the main drawback comes in. The five emitters are on a thin aluminum heatsinking plate, unfortunately that is where the heatsinking ends. The plate just sits there held by tape and not touching any other thermally conductive part. Using my precision temperature sensing tool (my hand, later calibrated using a FLIR camera) The plate reached about 115 degrees Fahrenheit in 20 seconds on high and took 45 seconds to reach that temperature on medium.
Mechanics:
Threads were squeaky when they came.
Bezel was very tight.
Initial:
20s on High
45s on medium
High = 3.42A @ 3.10V
Medium = 0.93A @ 2.21V
Summery
It has good functionality, brightness and feels good in my hand. If it were not for the poor heatsinking of the LED's this would be a very good flashlight that I would recommend.
There are some modifications that I did to the flashlight to extend its run time. I'll post the thread soon (I hope:beer
