Needless to say I was quite interested when I came across these flat diode modules being
sold by O-Like on eBay
, having a few of these diodes myself. Unfortunately it came
packed in a small plastic bag with no ESD protection. Not a big deal to me though since
what I really wanted was the heatsink, but something to consider. Nonetheless, the
module is working perfectly. It actually came with a dual 650 / 780nm diode, so that is
another bonus I guess. Another letdown is the lens barrel they sent me isn't the nice
metal one as pictured but black plastic.

Not necessarily a big deal either since it is a standard M9 x 0.5 lens. Here it is next to a
genuine AixiZ module for comparison.

It is 12mm O.D. and so exactly the same size as a standard AixiZ module. There are no
threads for the back half of the module though, so we must find other was of protecting the
pins. This isn't necessarily an issue though with so many builds not using this piece at all.

Finally, a beam shot. The IR also works, though you'll just have to take my word for it on
that. :D

It does get a little warm after a couple minutes of runtime at 100mA. This probably isn't
the same model LuxIgnis was running at 500mA. It will of course perform much better with
a nice big heatsink.

nice and compact, and good to know that these exist! Those flat packaged diodes are supposedly not bad at all, just currently too hard to implement. Thanks for taking the time to share with us!
