nice review djQUAN
I found a cheaper deal for $9.99USD from 21buyinhere - "3x High Power 5MW Green + Blue Voilet + Red Lazer Ray Laser Pointer Pen", Nice! a 5 megawatt green, a new voilet color and one is even a Lazer! - and hey freee shipping! I don think i've seen a 3pack cheaper

3X High Power 5mW Green Blue Voilet Red Lazer Ray Laser Pointer Pen | eBay

I dunno if this seller has been mentioned in here yet so I just thought I'da let a you all know about this guy, from china of course!
He has sold way more of these than your seller has, if that means anyting :p
So... good luck.. I'm not affiliated with him or guarantee anything either

5 MW!! And i think the host is solid gold too (for an extra 37¢) ;).

Thanks for the great review. I might have to pick this pack up. +1

Just checked a 303 type 532 and got 54mw of IR and with no filtering for the green it's 97mw.

Apologies for kicking a dead thread, but it seems like the best place to ask this.

I just bought the same green pointer as is sold in these three packs. I'll be strictly using it for outdoor beam viewing, as I can't justify the cost of laser goggles at the moment. I'm not going to take chances with my sight.

Has anyone taken a look at the diode and driver assemblies of these pens? I am wondering whether (in the case of the red and violet pens) it is possible to swap the diode and adjust the driver current, either by tweaking a pot or swapping a resistor.

I'd like to swap the 405 diode for a 20 mW alternative, then under-drive it to achieve 5-10 mW output. I could do a similar thing with the red and basically use it as a driver and host for a 635 nm diode.

I'm interested in these pointers in particular as they are the only cheap, complete laser pens available from within Australia, on eBay. They're sold as 1mW here and bypass customs as they are domestically shipped. Scary to think how many have been sold to oblivious people.

That is too much work for something that cheap :) swapping diodes is possible but you might have to destroy one to get access to the module as they are press fitted into the tube.

I have almost destroyed 2 so far trying to take them apart. They are press fit. IMO better to just buy a cheap host like a C6 and build your own laser with it. Sure its more expensive but will last a life time.

Thanks for the input, but I ended up answering my own question.

I was shining my eBay 532nm into the sky today when the output suddenly dimmed. Tried letting it cool down, no improvement. Warmed it up, changed batteries... nothing. Not sure what happened but it was extremely dim. Didn't drop it or anything.

Checked for IR with my IR camera and it was still putting out plenty, so it must have been something to do with the crystal set. Figured there was no chance of repair, so I pulled it all apart to see what was inside.

Coincidentally, my 5mW, 635nm diode turned up in the post today. Naturally I decided to see if I could turn it into a little 5mW red pointer.

The Aixiz module I'd bought to accompany the diode had not yet arrived, so I decided to try re-purposing the green module. I unscrewed it, removed the glued - on DPSS crystal assembly and removed the 808nm diode from the heatsink, destroying the diode in the process. I then modified the heatsink by widening the apeture, before pressing in the 635nm diode. I pushed it much deeper into the heatsink than the original diode had been placed, in order to get it closer to the lens.

I then soldered up a replacement driver PCB, salvaging the original switch and spring. I opted to use a simple current limiting resistor as I didn't have the parts to make anything better, and space was very tight regardless.

Finally, I focused the laser. I got very lucky here, as the entire silver tube is threaded. This allowed me to screw the lens far deeper into the module than it was intended to be placed.

Surprisingly, it works great! The spot is very clean and has extremely low divergence (I haven't measured yet, but it's much better than when the module was configured for green).

Nope, but I wish I'd seen that. I hammered the diode out from the front, destroying it and the lens.
