The one I ordered should be here tomorrow. I ordered one from Calphor's link, anyone else get one in their hands yet? Can they be tinkered with, maybe tuned up a little?

I got my two over the weekend but haven't had a chance to post about them since. Doing a side-by-side with the one I bought from etimeshop earlier, I'd say they are roughly identical in output. I don't have an LPM, so I can't give you explicit numbers. I'll try to take a set of beam shots to show the comparison.

Mine just arrived, works great. Beam is visible in a dark room and the dot is very clean.

As for being 5mW, using a lens to focus the focus the beam I've popped a balloon and smoked paper. Thanks again for the link, Calphor.

OK, my 2 arrived from them today. I used my DIY IR Thermometer "LPM". I tested the best one from the 1st seller, removed the batteries and checked the 2 I just got. One is a little lower as was the same with itemquickship and the second one is dead on with the other overspec from itemquickship. They seem to be the same. I have no calibrated laser to get a reference point for even a remotely reliable number, but using the OP's 3.13 they would be 50-55mw. I cannot confirm that as a real value, mine meet the same description as others popping balloons & burning holes in thin black plastic with another lens used to focus. All I can say is they heat the target the same as the original seller we were using.

An old biconvex Nikon lens we've had sitting around the house forever. It's got some anti-reflective coating on it and it works well with all my lasers. It says 20dptr. on the side, I want to assume that's Nikon's abbreviation for diopter.

Here it is next to a regular BIC for size comparison.

Below are some beamshots using the lens with my various lasers. First two are with my Arctic, second one has a regular size sharpie for scale at the focal point. Continuing from the left there's my cheapo ebay 405, a cheap ebay 532(same host as the bluray one), then some ancient red pointer.

Oh cool, found one on amazon (20 diopter) for like 10 dollars. Basically a magnifying glass, wanna see how well my amazon "30mw" green burns then, since it already can pop a balloon (5-10 secs) and cut really thin black plastic.

Is everything still lined up inside? When I dropped a 5mw green pen about 2 feet onto carpet it shifted the dot to near the edge of the lens.

EDIT: Wow quick shipping, now Im playing the waiting game for it to be at my mailbox:

Electronic Shipping Info Received, October 14, 2010

EDIT 2: I got the laser! Fast shipping considering I ordered wed night. I noticed one thing, with my transistion glasses if I shine the laser through em (not while I am wearing them) it turns em dark like the sun! Found this out from catching an accidental reflection and seeing a darkspot. I started freaking out thinking "Holy shit! This 5mw blinded me!!!!" Then took off the glasses.

Well my camera phone really really picks up the blue, makes it look brighter than my green!

Great little laser, quite dim on a plain surface damn near blinding on the body of a highlighter. The packaging was the laser in a bubble wrap tube in a bubble wrap envelope, kinda plain but hey $10 laser! Got the fog machine running again (fuse wasnt making good contact) and got some "good" beamshots of both this blue and my "30mw" green (prob overspec since it can pop a balloon).

These aren't anywhere near 5mw. They're generally around 50mW, and i've gotten some that have been in the 60mW range and one that's measured 71mW.. These pens are NOT eyesafe in any regard. Just because it doesn't look that bright doesn't mean it's not dangerous.

An actual 5mW 405nm laser wouldn't be fun at all. You'd barely be able to see the dot unless it was absolutely dark. That's probably the reason these are all overspec by a factor of 10 or more.. If they were really 5mW, nobody would buy them.

Well I got the cap off the end of mine, now am trying to find something to reach in and adjust the lens for focus. There is a lot of dead space between the lens and cap, if I could find my pipe cutter Id cut this down a bit to make it finger adjustable.
