Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

Nice detailed tests and review on those inexpensive 5mW greens...
What a bargain they are at $10.00... and legal to import to the USA as
sold by DX...

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

Great job testing. You must have talent being able to completely dismantle a green laser and put it back together.

Let us know how long they last at high current.

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

nice test :) how did you do to change the ma of the lasers? just turning the pot?.....

i tryed to turn the pot on my bottle shape laser pointer and kaleidoscopic 30mw from dealextreme.. but it didn't improve the power of my laser. maybe it was at max.

mmm.. now.. can your 3 laser BURN? and what about the true 50mw... i noticed that you did'nt test it over 299 ma....why? maybe it could reach pure green 100mw.. why not

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

Thanks bob, lots of good info. I wish i was as smart as you though :(

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

hmm.. it would be lovely to get pictures of the disassembling process.. :)

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

Nice review Bob. Oh, and have fun on the trip.

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

Bob, I just received a True 5 a couple days ago, with different performance characteristics that what you described, apparently a new design using a module that is threaded on the end (looks like it may be using one of those newly-released 3-piece screw-together DX Modules that we have been having so many problems with lately here -)

http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/new-dx-green-modules-42299.html

I was wondering if any of the three units you reviewed has a threaded-end module, and if so, how did you safely remove it from the host, and did you notice any performance differences from the older smooth-case module design?

Thanks! :yh:

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

seoguy one has internal threads one has external other than that theres no difference

Re: DX True 5mW Green Review

I followed Bob's instructions on taking these apart and setting the current. I guess I don't quite have the right touch, as I totally destroyed the pen in the process. But the module works great at 290ma. However the divergence is kinda bad, and I need to focus the lens. Bob suggested soaking the lens assembly in alcohol, which I am trying now. Thanks Bob!
