I'd agree on that - the typical MCA is set up with the doubling crystal within the cavity - that is: 1064 HR coatings on both ends of the combined crystal set. Such mirror coatings must be extremely good for the solid state laser to work at all, so virtually no 1064 leakage is possible.

I love mine. Definitely worth getting over a True 30mW (which I also have).

I might write a review on mine, with a few more pics, when I have the time.

I've gotta put one up on DX for da points so I might as well make a vid and post it here too.

Benm --

I never tested this for stable output because I consider this as a toy projector. It seems stable to my eye at night and is fun to play with.
When I measured it without the grating, I read 27 to 35 mW of green using e2 cells.

Thats nice - does it have stable output?
I have no means to test it other than by eye; however, I have not noticed any brightness deviations. I kept it on for a minute running next to my True 30mW and the dot stayed just as bright the whole time.

Stable to the eye is good enough i guess... when those DX lasers are unstable they usually flicker or dim remarkably fast.

The kaleidoscopic thing is a toy obviously, but i think the actual laser should get as much review as DX30 or something of similar power and price.

I was just thinking of going in for this kaleidoscopic but then I saw this (excuse posting URL, this isn't spam): www dot vaporstore dot com slash proddetail.php?prod=Laser-Star-Pen

It's also available at a couple of other websites like NewAje and Instapark priced around $79. The 3x price (the DX one is $26) has me confused big time. Please help me decide -- I can't figure out whether these guys are overpriced or are selling genuinely good hardware worth the extra $$. In any case, I'd be interested in knowing whether a 30mW kaleido greenie could ever be worth this much.

Thanks,
nagpal

I'm not sure, but it seems identical to the dx product, just more expensive?

Mine started Mode Hopping last week -- Crap  No problem, I'll mount that head on a good 50 mW and use the body for something else ;D Maybe my second one (coming) will be better !!!

Ah well, i bet you can use that cap on anything that it fits, so that part of the toy is saved ;)

Too bad it started modehopping though.. any change in climate where you are, or you think its just gone bad?

Am I correct in assuming this is the kaleidoscope model you have Mike: .theglowcompany.co.uk/acatalog/LASER-KALEIDOSCOPE.html I know the website say's it's 500mW   which can't be right for £70 but it's the closet one I can find. (Sorry still can't post links.)

Excellent cheers Rangedunits, wonder what they'll say if I ask them why it won't do 500mW :D
