First impressions. (Laser head)
This is your generic style laserhead.
Fan on the back side cooling the heat sink that holds the peltier element and the diode.
The laser head looks very clean and was very well machined.
No sharp edges or unpainted metal.
The Dimensions of the head are 102 × 39 × 39mm
Also something I noted in the specs.
Is that Dreamlasers actually makes a note of the residual ir coming from the laser.
This says something about the quality of the laser and ir filter.
And the company being very precise with the specs.
Also I was informed by Dreamlaser that this test model does 150mw
And that was exactly what it is doing after warm-up.
First impressions. (Driver)
It’s kind of big (175 × 75 × 40mm ) for a dpss driver these days.
But keep in mind the power supply is integrated into the driver
The Driver accepts any voltage between 90 and 240 volts.
The driver has its own power switch.
The blanking input can handle up to 20Khz TTL
However analog modulation is optional.
Also it has a soft start feature.
So don’t be worried when your laser does not turn on immediately.
The laser head can be disconnected from the driver.
A zenner diode is inside the laser head.
prevents the diode from being damaged by esd when disconnected .
Beam quality is great no distortions or reflections.
Focus can’t be changed externally on this module.
However this can be done when opening the laser head.
Now for the output power
The module is rated at 100 mw 532 nm.
My first measurement 5 seconds after power on peaked at 104 mw.
After 15 minutes I took an other measurement this one came in at 134 mw
After 1 hour I took a other measurement at this point the module was about 23 degrees.
And was doing about 158 mw so that’s a awesome
Overall this module seems to perform very well.
Its output is stable and free of distortions and reflections
All of the specs are spot on for this module.
Beam quality is really great and the beam is very tight.
According to my calculation its about 1.2 mrad.
This was also what was noted on the spec sheet for my specific model laser
The beam is very visible even without any smoke in the room.
All of the pictures I took where taken without any smoke at all.
And as usual all the power readings where done with the Coherent power check set to 532 nm.
Positive points.
1. Small laser head footprint and dimensions
2. No big heat sink and additional fans needed.
3. High quality infrared BG39 filter fitted.
4. Laser head is removable.
5. High expected lifetime (so no overdriven pump diode)
Negative point
1. Could not come up with any really
