Yea i have seen a lot of complaints with the Arctic but they do seem to be getting better, I'm hoping that then i get my G2 they would have worked out a lot of the kinks and rushed product defects the G1 had, only time will tell.

As far as the Sonar goes, I'm going to keep it. At first I thought you had a typo there when you said "cancel the Sonar" since you were talking about the Arctic before and after it. I looked at a lot of the options for substitutions on the Sonar like; Rayfoss & O-like. Rayfoss has had even more QC problems than WL and someone here on the forum has the O-like and does not like it at all. Lot of scatter and a poor beam. I believe that even more now since yesterday i received a 130mW E2 Evolution from WL and today i got my O-Like 150mW adjustable "Cute" laser. Here is a thread i started 150mW O-like "Cute" or 130mW WL E2 Evolution when i was deciding which to get, I decided on the O-like for price reasons and ordered on 8/4, then I decided to get both and ordered the WL on 8/15. I got my WL yesterday on 8/17 only 2 days later and the O-like today 14 days later.

The adjustable cute laser makes for a smaller dot close range, great for burning, but overall divergence is significantly worse when focused to infinity when compared to the E2. I really like the small "cute" host and feels nice, but very clear i think WL has much better quality and overall refinements. Has a nice case, came with a real manual. Also the E2 beam is visiblely brighter even though the O-like is suppose to be a 150mw laser and the E2 is only 130mW. I think my LaserBee II will be arriving tomorrow so I will test the true outputs soon and post a comparison. I think WL has a much better reputation for being overspec than O-like. Arctic not a good example, since it doesn't specify an actual output but it does say <1W and i've seen people getting over 1W but you have to take of the regular lens and just let it be exposed.

In summary, like these two I just got, my money is on the WL Sonar being the better laser. The focusable O-like blu-ray will be great for burning but i bet you it will be less than 200mw where the WL will probably be slightly over. And focused to infinity the WL will probably be better and for less money. And considering how long i've had to wait for it and there isn't the same hype that the Arctic had, i doubt they will be rushing as much on it.

btw I haven't gotten a shipping confirmation yet but WL claims they started shipping the Sonars last friday and expect to have most of the orders shipped this week, so they say. Either way, when it takes 14 days for O-like to ship vs 2 days from WL, I also bet you'll get the Sonar first if your just now placing the order from O-like.

Hi all,

My 400mw made it safely across the globe to me after all. It sure did sit for a while in "ISC New York USPS" though.

Here is a quick outdoor shot being shined on my driveway around 60' to 70' away. I apologize for the grainy iphone picture. But as you can see, the beam doesn't spread out like the 1watt version seems to:

Next, an interior shot of the business end of the laser. Doesn't look like there are much in the way of corrective optics in there, unless they're down inside the brass heatsink:

Nice shot, would be nice to see a night shot. Good how you can also see the beam in your shoot.

As is typical with CNI lasers, the Spartan just seems to be really well engineered out of good strong materials. Look how thick the aluminum head is. Look inside at that nice heavy brass heat sink. The batteries don't rattle, the switch has no play. Everything just looks like it's built to last a lifetime.

I'm very happy with my purchase. It may be plain looking but I'll take that any day over gimmicky, shoddy construction.

Is your beam straight coming out of the host? Mine comes out at an angle.(1w version)

I just turned it on and slowly rotated the laser. No signs of the beam coming out at even a degree off-center. Seems perfectly aligned.

10 days since I ordered my spartan 1w and still on queue :(

It's going to take some time. They did get a lot of orders in as well...should be a lot better then the 2 months i waiting for the arctic and still had to cancel! Took them 3.5 weeks from order to receiving delivery in Baltimore MD for me, and I was in the first order.

XFly,

I'm a week behind you. Same status. I'll be patient though the site did not indicate out of stock. These things happen. Sort of like a couple of schoolbuses pulling in at a McDonald's.
