Default Dealextreme tripod and clamp, 100% usefull for laser holding.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1309/http://www.focalprice.com/DT019B/Bab...pod_Black.html
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14150

Althought this is not a laser, it's a VERY usefull gadget for laser holding for taking photos, burning things, etc etc etc... It's construction is far better from what I expected. The whole set is just 4.20$. I'll just copy what DX says about it because it's all pure truth. I've got to say this is the best quality item I've ever got from dealextreme.

The only con I've found so far is that the small balls that are at the bottom ofthe legs are not well glued and one of them fell apart. I just took out all of them and glued them properly. Remember they are really needed for the tripod to be stable so you are better doing this once you got it.

The clamp holds 1.5 inch diameter objects,so I think it can even hold the big lasers. I've tested the weight it canhold and I would say even more than 1lb.

- Metal steel construction
- Flexible/Bendable legs to reach 4" in height (4.5" maximum)
- Supports 1lb+ weight (when weight is balanced)
- Suitable for telescopes and small digital cameras
- Only 1.80oz to carry
- Solid construction at an unbeatable price

Just buy it, I've ordered 2 sets more for the other lasers I own.

Yours,
Albert

I've got 6 sets myself, but I opted for the tripod with the expandable legs. They give you a wider base, thus are able to support heavier, longer items. The cost difference is negligible.......................rob.

These are the ones I use (they're a little shorter but the spring clips hold lasers of all sizes nicely and they're solid as hell)

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Desk-Top-Tri...3A2%7C294%3A50

If you watch this companies auctions they occasionally offer 3 lots of these for like $17.99 shipped, which makes them a lot better deal...

It SHOULD BE. All SMALL tripods & many large ones use the SAME SIZE threaded coupler on top of the tripod, which fits this clamp. As I said in my earlier post, I have 6, & they fit EVERY tripod I have, even my 6 footer !!!!!! rob

It's a microphone clamp, so must be compatible with any (or at least most part) of the microphone stands / tripod threads.

If you need bigger ones, you have to search in studio clamps, or stage clamps, the ones used for lamps and backgrounds holding in photographic studios and film set ..... lots of big clamps, in this field ..... just as example (but there's a lot of place for search also more cheaper ones ) http://www.calumetphoto.com/1/3/studio-clamps

IIRC, the threaded portion is a VERY STANDARD 1/4 20 screw, & fits clamps, mic. holders, cameras, etc. As I posted earlier, I have 6 sets & I love 'em........rob

Nice! Thanks.. I've been looking around for this type of setup. Thought I'd have to spend more for a mic stand at the music store.

I can get 4 sets of these for less than I expected to pay for one tripod/mic stand.

@ netwave. If the clamp unscrews from the tripod, my advise is to buy a standard style
tripod rather than the flexible leg type. The standard tripod has EXTENDABLE legs which can give a bigger 'footprint', thereby making a more steady base when holding the larger RPL style lasers. The flex leg model is unable to do that. I have 6 of the extendable leg models & they work great................. rob

Default Re: Dealextreme tripod and clamp, 100% usefull for laser holding.

for the advise Rob, I will deff bare that in mind for a future RPL.

In this case I was only interested in the 1" ring clamp, as Ive struggled to find the correct size for my lasers which are about 1" dia.
That tripod you commented on comes with the clamp.

Ive got a Joby gorilla tripod, theyre allot stronger & more stable, but it is flex legged which I personally find great for what ive got.
That 1" ring clamp should fit the gorilla which is what ive been looking for.

It would be great to see more hosts with tripod inserts like the tank007 as standard.
Especially for the smaller lasers out there like mine where weight would not be an issue.
Now would'nt that save allot of hassel

I just did a robustness test & those DX tripods are very poorly designed dispite being cheap!

I just managed to break one with little effort, where the bolt just spun in the mould before it broke away!

Basically the threaded bolt is surface moulded lol... here's the evidence

If your looking for a stronger cheap tripod look for the Spider! EBay Item number: 180429408368 its virtually the same as my Joby but cheaper, If your looking for better tilt action you could get Item number: 180429421700 which is a mini ball head attachment! I just ordered one & are available in x2 sizes which should also suit an RPL.
