DealExtreme Green or Red Laser??

I am torn between the 150mW Green and 200mW Red laser for sale on DealExtreme.com

I read all of the reviews and the red seems to have problems such as focusing, battery availability, but positives of great burning ability and, contradictorily, good focusing.

For the green, it says that the beam is more visible but the burning power is less, also, it seems like it may be easier for a noob like myself. Any and all suggestions welcomed! :)

the 150mW green will be under 100mW, and the price is sick.

if you prefer burning-> red 200mW

if you prefer beam visibility -> green 50mW (20$ and it's actually really 50mW)

Thank you all for the advice!
laze_doctor, i will definitely own both by the end of this year, there's no doubt about that :) but i am kind of leaning towards the green because of its visibility

Hallucynogenyc, i wonder why it is that the 50 is actually better...? and do you happen to know if you can return a laser because it is under powered??

If you buy the 50mw true laser. You got a real 50mw laser.

The 150mw laser is "non-true" and the power is lower than they say.

I have heard that this is the case, i wonder why that is. I will have to take it into consideration.
Would you say paying a little extra for a little extra power is worth it even tho the laser is not a 'true laser'??

I think the money is worth it.

Okey, it is not 150mw but it is more than 50mw.
And if it's only 100mw, it is stil a great price:san:.

Cool thanks! A green 100mW will probably be my next laser, now that I am about to order the red one x)

I just got a 200mw red myself and I much prefer a green beam to a red one IMO. My dad's 50mw green is just as bright if not brighter than my 200mw red. But if burning is what you're looking for then you can't beat red for the price.

The beam is still visible right? Because the highest power I've seen was my little 5mW green... so compared to that (which I think is amazing), it is better, right? And I can't wait to make some more money and get a high powered green one!!! :D

Depends when and where your shining it. I can only see the beam when there is almost no light, compared to a green where I can see the beam if there is some light.

All in all you'll always be able to see a green beam much easier than a red one. In my experience a 50mw green beam is 3 to 4 times brighter than that of my 200mw red, if not more.

So it is visible at night if there is pretty much no light-pollution from the city, thats alright with me! :)
Also, I was looking for a good green one but they are much more expensive. I may have to resort to dealextreme again for my next one.

The cool thing about reds is that the beam doesn't "overpower" the dot. I'm only speaking from experience (when playing with a 300mW green RPL and a 300mW red)... so note that the comparison might be a bit different from a 200mW red and ~100mW green.

Anyway I've often found that when pointing at _really_ far away things, the beam of the green will overpower the dot, so it's just like pointing to the sky -- you don't see it hit anything. With the red, you still get a sweet beam, but your mind gets blown to see a red dot on something that is insanely far away. This isn't always the case -- sometimes the green dot doesn't get overpowered... but in general it holds true.

Comparing 300mW red with 5mW green... it won't be all that much brighter, but it will go really far unlike the 5mW (of cause you'll never notice this if you're just pointing at stars).

Trust me though, red is freaking awesome. You won't be disappointed with it. I actually prefer red, because it draws less unwanted attention... where I live unwanted attention is a very bad thing. But no matter _where_ you live, complaints from neighbours, etc are never good.

I have noticed that while pointing at a mountain with my green it looks just like the beam in the sky, so its hard to convice my friends there is actually a dot on the mountain.
Unwanted attention is bad, I would rather not have anyone upset with me for owning such a high powered laser x) and I think you are right, I will probably be happy with my purchase:tinfoil: thanks!

I didn't said 50mW because I like the number xD

I've seen 2 100mW units and they are the same than the 50mW ones. Save your money, the best you will get from dealextreme is 60 pr 70 mW from a good 50mW unit.

Thats good to know! I am a fan of dealextreme for its prices so I pretty much always check there first. Do your 100mW units have adjustable lenses? (and does that matter iyo?)
