CNI GLP-593.5nm Review Average(2.0mW) Peak(4.0mW)
Disclaimer: Im currently in France and don't have access to the items I would use to make a proper review(Camera/Tripod etc..) I apologize in advance for the blurry pictures! And yes, Tha Greenlander does buy non-LG lasers
The following thread will be set-up in the following order:
- Sale & Service
- Shipping
- Laser & Feel
- Stability
- Visibility of beam
- Divergence
- Overall opinion of laser
- Extra Shots!!!(more free photons )
Sale & Service
I bought this particular beauty during DJNY's sale thread. I spent 1 entire day just thinking in my head "Should I Or Should I Not"? Seeing 593.5nm pointers are such a hot item I knew I had to quickly make my decision and finally decided to buy it for $225(w/ expedited shipping to France) which is a really good price! Over the course of several days after the sale I sent DJNY many PM's asking the condition of the device and how it would be shipped along with many others and I was amazed at how responsive he was, longest I had to wait for an answer was a few hours. Not only was he polite & very respectful but he provided me with more detail then necessary just to make sure I would calm down since this is my first ever purchase on a forum. Overall, great guy & highly recommend him!
Shipping
Laser was sent out on Monday June 30th & arrived to my doorstep July 7th 2014, I find that pretty fast considering I only payed $25 and DJNY informed me UPS/DHL which would only be a few days faster would have costed $50+!!!!!. Now, since this was originally a CNI unit it came inside a white box(which I suppose is basic CNI packaging, no sure though).
Laser & Feel
When I first opened the box containing the laser I honestly was expecting the unit to be bigger then it is, but it's size isn't really important to me as long as I get the pretty photons!! The laser is very, very, very comfortable in the hand and when pressing the button an audible "click" can be heard which gave me a good feeling. The button itself does not wobble at all and is black which is a great since it blends in with the pen's host and adds a feeling of elegance. The unit itself(as mentioned before) is quite small, even smaller then the Aquarius! A plus about it not being as big as the Aquarius is that this unit takes AAA's & not horrible, expensive CR2(THANK YOU JESUS) batteries!
Stability
After hearing all the stories about some 593.5 pens being un-stable I was glad to hear that DJNY was selling his as "the most stable 593.5nm he has had" and....he wasn't lying. I just popped the bats in and fired it up & it worked like a charm. The dot seemed to be the same size and barely saw any change(you guys tell me if this is normal). Below is a video a 10 second period showing the unit just after putting the AAA's in.
Visibility of beam
It is currently mid-day here in France and the beam can be clearly seen if you aim the laser toward yourself and look just off to the side of the aperture. The beam isn't anything OVERWHELMING but it is there if you know where to look. Even I was amazed to see such a beam in a brightly lit room! *Expect more beam shots tonight*
Divergence
Let me say. I am a complete N00b when it comes to calculating divergence of a laser and I won't pretend to know what im talking about. I did happen to see someone aim their laser at a wall and take a ruler to calculate the divergence(don't know if this is how it's done) but I gave it a try so I would at least have some material. *Laser was about 50 centimeters from wall*
Overall opinion of laser
After joining this hobby and hearing of yellow lasers I have always wanted a 593.5nm pointer & even have had several dreams about it lol! Im very, very, very, very pleased with this purchase and have to say this is one of my favorite wavelengths & pointers. I have spent all today reading on the process to create 593.5 light and the fact all that can fit inside a pointer is amazing to me. If anyone out there is considering purchasing a yellow pointer(589nm/593.5nm) I say go for it! Yellow pointers are nothing short of spectacular and you can bet this pointer will always be by my side
Extra Shots!!!
Thank you for your time in reading through this review. I did my best(since my other reviews lacked material and were just showing off) so I hope this is good enough. More pictures will be added tonight along with other content
