This is a late review, I got this laser a couple months back from sci-fi lasers and Eitan was great about getting the laser shipped to me. It arrived very well packaged and there was no visible damage. Shipping took a few weeks, as do most Sci-Fi purchases, but I was able to track my order and it made it safely so no complaints.

FIRST LOOK:
The combination of a white host and a green beam looks badass to me, the host was completely powder coated and had no scratches on arrival. However, I did find that the coating is easily scratched from just putting it down or sliding it across a surface. Any scratches that you see in the pics happened after i got the laser though. It feels fantastic in the hand, has some heft to it due to the enormous heat sink which really makes it feel like the high-power piece of precision engineering that it is. The focus ring turns smoothly, though you will have to refocus the laser pretty much every time you use it since the ring turns so easily. The tailcap turns smoothly and I must emphasize that the BATTERIES GO IN POSITIVE END FIRST! I don't want anybody to read this and then go fry their own laser.

I really like the rubberized recessed button, it prevents accidental activation when picking up the laser and has a pretty firm spring so it will not be easy to turn on without meaning to which is a must in a laser of this power. The Arcane 2.0 has no additional safety features like key switches or aperture shutter so I was really happy with the button's design especially being a side clicky. Of course, the best safety feature is your own ability to use your safety glasses and remove the batteries when not in use.

THE BEAM:

Wow! Just WOW! What did I just see! Theres really no way to explain just how bring 1 Watt of 520nm light is! Even at only 1 Watt this thing will appear brighter than even the 4-6 watt blue lasers out there! The color is more on the green side than 532, which will appear more yellowish in comparison, but the difference is really not huge. It is easily visible in a fully lit room and the dot is bright enough to illuminate my entire living room. When defocused, the beam has the same line shape to it as any other direct diode laser. I did find the beam to be a lot thinner than that of a 445 laser but not quite as thin as a DPSS 532, just figured I'd point that out.

BURNING:

At 1 Watt this certainly doesn't disappoint for basic burning needs (matches, balloons, plastic, etc), but I found that it doesn't seem to burn quite as well as my 445nm 1W. That being said my 1W is technically a 1.2W so it's not really a fair comparison (though I believe blue light in general gets absorbed better). The laser does burn well, but I think the reason to get this would be more for the shear brightness and visibility of the beam than as a burner, if your goal is to torch the crap out of anything you point it at, you'd be better off with a higher-power blue.

All in all a great laser and who doesn't want to own one of the brightest handheld lasers in the world! I highly recommend :)

Neat! I've always loved the look of the Arcane host, just something about it makes it look badass!

Thanks for sharing :yh:

That host looks much nicer to me with the white powder coat. It sounds like it needs some kind of clear coat over it. You pretty much nailed how bright doesn't mean burn as I just mentioned in another thread. +REP

I wish I had seen this thread before, the white really makes it look great. I ordered both my lasers in Black.

The arcane looks pretty awesome regardless of color but to me a white host has a very futuristic/astronaut look to it while a black host has a very military/batman look to it. Either way it's an awesome laser and I highly recommend. But yes what Pman said is right, our eyes are very sensitive to this wavelength so it will appear insanely bright watt for watt much more so than any blue laser. For burning i still go to my 3W 502b from sci-fi lasers.

I would not recommend getting a black Arcane. The paint chips off within minutes.

FYI according to Eitan these are not powder coated but rather sprayed with air craft paint. Maybe the reason they scratch and chip so easily is painter must not be using a primer coat to cut costs or lead time. Thats a shame it already has so many chips in the paint. The paint should at the very least be done correctly if he isnt going to use powder coating. PC holds up much better and would be a better method.
That aside I always loved the white Arcane. I want to get an all white host for my 1W 520nm diode.
Sounds like you got lucky with fast shipping and tracking numbers that actually worked. Thats a beautiful unit you have. Thanks for the review.,

How do you know this? Prove your statement. Let's analyze your spreadsheet, let's define " most " mathematically, 99.5% would be most, 51% could be called most. I know the ratio of complaints to reviews that I have seen lately and reviews are not even 51%

He can not , and do not have to prove anything. He told you about his own experience. And he see and thinks that other purchases are the same as they are.

This is a nice review. You do not have to ruin everyone of these threads.

Thanks for the great comment !

Very lovely and rare white laser. How is it finished? Is it a hand spaying or anodizing?

but I was able to track my order

It is so funny for you to specify your tracking number is working.

I would agree RedCowboy this time. When ThePhotonist say “as do most Sci-Fi purchases”. He is no longer making a statement for his purchase only. Unfortunately we know that quiet a few Sci-Fi purchases will takes up to few month.

Anyway I enjoy this review thumb up for ThePhotonist :gj:

I'm lost on the quality issue, one host is a $6 diy and the other starts flaking paint as soon as it's recieved, one or both have to be "wedged" to keep the heatsink from rattling around, i do not own one, have just been reading threads

Wow, It seems that there are folks here that want to criticize every one of these threads. It's a bit over the top. People used to get along a lot better here a year ago.
