So I got my laser from Alien today. It's a pen style 1.2 watt 405nm with a g2 lense and I'm quite impressed. Being it's a 405 it's not the brightest but man this thing can burn! Up close and from a distance. I give Alien a 10/10.. He always answered all my questions in a timely matter. I probably talked to him for a total of 5 or 6 hours and he always cheerfully replied and went above and beyond to get me answers to all my questions. I got the laser in 2 days which was great, and it came very well wrapped and protected. The laser doesn't have as much as a scatch on it. It feels good and dosent rattle or anything which is also nice. As far as the performance the laser works great. I haven't played with it too much yet, but I did cut a piece of electrical tape in half from about 20 feet away and it did it with ease. All in all I'm very pleased with Alien laser and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for well priced high quality laser.

Hi Yoshi,
I'm glad to hear your happy with the new 405nm , just a word of precaution. Do Not run the pen to long if it's LPMed at 1.2W's the only sinking it has to rely on is the CU module, not much heat dispersion to the host. And at that Wattage the 405nm diode is in the kill zone so be care full very care full with the duty cycle if you want a longer life from it. Take my word i have built many 405's and they are very finicky diodes they get angry when pushed to hard.
Anyway he has built nice pens in the past and i'm sure his practices are good. This is your first 405 so be good to it ..

Rich:)

Yoshi, I'm glad your happy and as the saying goes "don't judge a book by its cover" like when you first very questionable about Alien. Oh yes he's a "strange one" and this is with his own admit to being one:crackup:
Yup watch that duty cycle like all have said.

That is definitely in the kill zone for a 405nm, if that thing is really over driven to 1.2W I wouldn't run it for even 10 seconds at a time. Let us know when it fails, I am interested to know how long it lasts, some here have had 3 in a row fail on them due to overdriving them. Be careful with that thing, it can probably burn at 90 - 100 feet.

I'd almost recommend running that on alkalines(if it normally takes 10400's) for reduced output with longer life. I just don't want that thing to die on you. It's being driven super hard.

Depends on the diode
SELLING Any interest in Opnext HL40023MG 405nm 500mW laser diodes?
Ive heard of several multi-mode 405nm diodes that have been pushed well over a watt.

somewhere I read about a forum member having a 1 watt rated 405nm diode but i cant seem to find it.
Alien laser if you are reading this what diode did you use.

Its a 16X BDR set at 0.8A its very safe since did a lot off testing on this diodes and destroyed like 3+ i found the best setting 0.8A
currently am testing some other diodes the :)

Do you have any test data? ANY test data at all? How is anyone supposed to extract any meaning from this without numbers? "I like it; it burns things" doesn't mean anything to me.

Hi Yoshi, we've seen pics of your laser when Alien posted it for sale, were wanting to see some of Aliens "testing" pics/data

Set your camera QUALITY to 480 x 600 ow whatever the limit is, then use that paperclip icom to attach, click it then browse, find your pic and click open and when you have them all or 8 is the liniy click UPLOAD, you will see them listed.

Then submit and edit, click your own pic then right click and select properties and copy the addy, close the pic then click the pic icon, backspace out the http and paste your copied addy. Then you have it the easy way.

You can snag pics anywhere, see post #10 I just right clicked it and selected properties and copy the address string, then in my post click the pic icon, backspace out the http because it's just duplicated and right click in the box....click paste, and that's it, I grab sruff all over the web without messing wth that dam photobucket, it's a pita with all the advertising bogging things down. The pic icon just makes IMG and /IMG in these [] at the front and back of your string.
