So I bought one of these, and for $40 it seemed great. The beam was insane, only problem was the driver got SUPER hot. Within 30mins of usage, it died. I sent an email to aixiz, and they did not reply for 3 days, but after three days, they sent me a new one, at no charge. My new one has a TON of artifacts that come out of the laser at a 45 degree angle.

That new laser was surge protected, fused, driver was not adjusted, and within 1 hour it died. It is built into a spiro (see pictures). Also, it connection on the driver labeled LD with a drop of glue on the connection came out. The + wire came out of the connecter, my solution: take the TTL cable from the old laser, and solder it on to the new one.

Aixiz sent me my first laser $0.51 "postage due", but the replacement came properley paid for, and better packed.

I researched, and this laser seems to be an underspec 100mw laser. Does that not mean that they have to be defective?!

I rate this laser a 0/5, and Aixiz a 3/5

My new one has a TON of artifacts that come out of the laser at a 45 degree angle, so blocking the beam one foot away does not hide the artifacts. The driver gets hot still, but it is not as hot. I have one of these to keep my voltage regulator cool, and it works. I have it on the resistors on the driver too, as they get hot.

I give the laser 3/5 stars, and aixiz 4/5 stars

I'd swap out the drivers and see if I could get that "insane" beam back. I hate artifacts. . .

Seems like a lot of trouble for just 15 mW of green to me.

Its nice enough of them to replace the unit without hassle... but perhaps you can post some pics of the artifacts/problems.

Changing the driver will not affect artifacts most likely caused by a dirty or scratched lens, unless the laser is modehopping from too much power. Try cleaning the lens, that should fix the artifacts. If they stay there after cleaning the lens I would try to get a new one.

To see if the laser is mode hopping, put a magnifying glass in front of the beam and see if you get one big dot or 2 or more little dots. If it is mode hopping you could try turning the driver down.

Are you sure you are giving it the recommended voltage? Too much voltage is just burned off on the driver board as heat.

Re: Aixiz 15mw 532nm

I bought one of the 50mw versions for my scanner, been using it for 6 months off and on.

Output was 103mw as supplied, but the original driver had a lot of cold solder joints that were broken when I got it. A little soldering repair and it worked fine, but I only used it long enough to find out the drive current so I could set my FlexMod. I set the FlexMod for a max of 80mw output to keep a decent lifetime. Been working fine since. It handles analog modulation ok, but lasing current has a narrow window of 350ma(2mw output) to 450ma(103mw output)

I meant I would put the good driver on the good module and can the rest :)

This sounds pretty normal to me. You have the threshold of the pump diode, but after that also the non-linear proces of doubling to green.

As a comparison: On an o-like 50 mW module i have 360 mA as full power (i.e. what the original driver supplied). The green goes 'off' somewhere around 180-200 mA, which seems fine to me. Optical output for this module is around 70 mW at 360 mA.

I don't know where you read that, but it seems pretty far out to me. One can obviously bin lasers in to different output power bins after production, but getting a 100mW-intended model that outputs only 15 would be odd. If it actually is a defective 100mW model there should be a 500 mW pump diode in there, at current should be in the order of 600-700 mA. If that's the case, it has very inefficient crystals, although that situation can be stable so it still does not have to be defective.
