Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

The newer batch of lasers is different from the original. The original needed a tool to turn the focusing lens. On the new model the focusing lens is the waterproofing lens. You can't remove it.

The focusing lens is the same is the waterproofing lens in this case, but without it (you can just unscrew it) the focal point should be about 2-4 inches from aperture.

To be honest I didn't notice any difference in output or burning capability at the time, but without LPM I could be off by 100mW and never know it.

But if you unscrew the focusing head, you can still measure the raw output, I suppose?

Of course it wouldn't matter thath much then.

Tried it with the cap off just for grins. Got 474mW peak.

Not bad. That's close to what Susie estimated the loss to. 30-50mw. Not worth messing with in my opinion.

What I find strange is that mine burns ok for the first 30 sec then suddenly stops. Even though the intencity of the beam remains virtually the same.. Then it may burn some more after a little while. Weird.

And btw the lens is QUITE off cenrtre on this one as well. That's obviously present on most units.

I emailed Susie 2 days ago about the beam problem. Have not heard back yet. :(

I think the complaints are really piling up there so she's busy looking for solutions.. :)

I think that we shouldn't be picky. Most of us got a good laser for the price.

Angled beam is probably a problem in all units, so replacing it won't do any good, not to mention the fact that o-like don't have units in stock right now and we don't know when they will restock.

Even if they had units in stock, I wouldn't have sent it back to China just for an angled beam.

I do agree that if anyone received his laser DOA, or that it died after a short time, he deserves a replacement or a refund (what is more likely).

DPSS 532nm lasers often have a drop and then a peak when they first turn on and then a steady drop as they heat up. some non temperature stabalized lasers may run in a decent power range if the heat sink can dissipate the module heat fast enough. but most as too small and so the power will really fluctuate. this laser, the OL-532, is like that. so at some times, with mine, i find thr power to be under 200mw and other times its between 350-400mw. its not a stable laser and i dont think its a pre-unit issue. its just the nature of packing so much DPSS into such a small host.

Mine doesn't fluctuate much , ill make a video later with a good camera , it flickers a lilbit sometimes but that's all and when the battery becomes low ~3.5 volt it mode hops in TEM01 (| |)

100% Agreed. With 400mw of 532nm, I knew going into it that they would have to make some compromises. Also from experiences with other lasers, beam coming out at angle is not something that's in any way a deal breaker unless, it is so crooked that it actually shines in the host.

I had one laser like that and I send it back, but that's an extreme case.

Anyway, thanks for the support and I'm glad to see that mine looks like it was the exception in the batch.
