So after seeing all the positive hype about these cheap things, I had to get one. $9 for incredibly overspecced 405nm? Heck yes.
I ordered by emailing the seller and asking if I could purchase one without Ebay, since I'm technically too young to have one, and he said it wouldn't be a problem. I sent him the money on ebay and that was it!
After a week or so, I was getting pretty excited and I emailed him to make sure it had shipped. He replied saying it was sent out the 7th. I got it on the 23rd, so shipping was nothing special, even for standard shipping from China. Packaging was the norm, a bubble-wrap cushioned letter package thingy. Inside was the laser. Your basic New Wish host, with no batteries.
I plugged in some freshly charged AAA and off I went. I grabbed a lens and went to see what this thing would do. Here are some things I was able to pull off with this bad boy as well as some specs. Note that I don't have any measuring equipment, so these are just based on my personal observations.
No beam in lit room.
Barely visible beam in dark room.
Nice purple beam outside at night.
~2mm out of aperture
Incredible divergence (4mm at 30ft - <1mrad)
Cuts electrical tape.
Engraves black plastic.
Smokes anything black.
Stings human skin.
Draws on glow-in-the-dark stuff.
Warms tender human skin (underarms, back of hand, etc.)
The host is a new wish host. Batteries rattle a little bit, button moves up and down when you shake it, etc.
This laser does a whole lot of neat things. The properties of this color are VERY cool to see. If you don't have a 405nm, but don't want to blow a lot of money on one, this would be a fantastic choice. I'm ordering 3 more for friends!
