This is the item in question. They're $70 shipped, but I've heard there are some floating around for slightly less.
Shipping took two weeks and it came with no warning label. Important parts are in bold.
Is it slightly longer than a typical violet NewWish style pointer (violet on top):
The dot IS indeed a beautiful single mode :
The ring pattern is just spherical aberration from the expanding lens I used. The dot is about 4mmx2.5mm and has a divergence of 0.8mRad. It has no fast axis like the ©ã§ËØ blue diodes.
Equipment used: Science-Surplus spectrometer, Gentec 10W power meter, and a Mastech bench power supply. I didn't bother with pictures of the readouts, so you'll just have to take my word for it :
Wavelength is 449nm and warms up to 450nm after a minute or so.
Power peaked at 45mW and settled down to a very stable 43mW
Current draw at 3.4V, 3.0V, and 2.4V was 180mA, 200mA, and 300mA respectively.
Below 2.4V, current shoots up to ~400mA, but output drops to 3mW. This is probably bad for the driver, so if you see it dim, turn it off.
Summary: It's everything they say it is, and more!
