Its often difficult to get it exactly right, but 42 vs 45 is a very minor drop - could be coincidence really.

As for reselling these lasers: the beam grazing the aperture would be a big problem, but i suppose most of the units will not have this problem.

If you mark them as 40 mW units and check before shipping them out, i'd think its all fine and good. Obviously they should be powered with 3.6 rechargeables instead of 3 volt primaries, but that can make a decent package deal.

One thing to test for is how long they will run on 3.6 volts though... i've seen lasers like this one survive for ages at elevated supply voltage, but it would be very bad if all your customers came complaining about broken units within the year.

It's not going to change from pending. It stays like that until you recieve it. I got an email when they shipped it. If you would have read the bottom of page 3 you would know this.

Just got mine in today. I tried the CR2 that came with it, measured 2.96 on the DMM. Not impressed, it actually looked pretty much the same as my DX 5mw. I put in a 3.0v rechargeable measured at 3.58, and it's better, but still not all I was hoping for. Anybody know where I can find 3.6v RCR2's in the US locally?

I got the laser today. It came in the same tin as Styro's. My foam was cut out exactly like his too, and nicely fit the laser (sorry Mohrenberg.. lol).

I really like the feel to it. It feels weighty and tough in the hand. As Mohrenberg said, the threads are very smooth, which really adds to the build quality.

The beam itself is pretty nice. The dot is clean and round (most of the time) . Like Styro said, the beam diameter is larger than most greenies you see. It doesnt seem to be to underspec power wise. I'm sure it's at least 40mw.

I am having some mode-hopping though, hence the "most of the time" statement above. Sometimes after the laser has just turned on, it will change from its single dot to two dots/beams. This only seems to occur when the laser has not warmed up. Right now I can correct this by letting the laser run for about 30-45 seconds (With the two beams), to give the diode a quick warm up. Then I turn the laser off, and turn it back on. Usually when tuned back on after the warm up, the laser will stay in a nice TEM00 mode. I fear that in the winter it might be kinda difficult to keep the laser functioning properly though.

Overall I do like the laser, despite the mode-hopping thing and the PITIFUL battery that was included (like black_ice said). I would have rather them not have sent one at all lol. So be sure to choose the 3.7v rechargeable option if your wanting to use the laser out of the box without paying 10$ for primaries at Wal-Hell.

Sadly I wasn't as lucky with this laser I guess. Compared to a 5mw green, this is maybe twice as bright or less. Probably around 10ish mw. Can't pop black balloons at all, can't really do much of anything lol. I contacted the seller, and they are letting me exchange it for a proper output one, and paying for return shipping. However, I'm considering purchasing this laser instead: http://www.qualitychinagoods.com/real-50mw-532nm-green-laserlzxb02-p-1259.html Anybody dealt with this company before? I contacted them, and they responded quickly. They say that they can measure output before shipping it to confirm proper power. What's your thoughts? Should I get an exchange, or should I get the 50mw from the other site?

Well twice as bright sounds about right. The DX true 5mw's vary greatly in output. They are generally from like 5-15mw+. If your DX is at 15mw (it could even be higher than that), then this laser -looking- only about twice as powerful as the DX5mw, could easily be at 40mw. The dot might not look much brighter per say either, but this could be due to the larger beam diameter.

If you have a pair of dark sunglasses laying around, you should turn both lasers on and shine them through them onto the wall. Then you can examine the dots without that blinding glare. :p

I checked the dot on black cloth from about 15' away with sunglasses. It is indeed brighter, but not by much. I've checked it against two 5mw's, one from DX and one from an unknown seller(it was a friends). Like I said, this thing looks to be at most 2x brightness, more like 1.5x. Anyway, I had a sudden crunch for money, so I guess for now I'm just gonna be returning it. Later I'll decide whether to buy another or not. I'm looking at this same laser, or three other ones from the seller that claims they can confirm output by measuring.
The other two are:

http://www.qualitychinagoods.com/real-50mw-532nm-green-laserlzxc01-p-1257.html
I'm kinda interested in the 2nd and 3rd ones because they're focusable, and use a 18650 battery, which I have a crapload of.
I really like the on/off clicky on the BD one though.
If anybody has any other suggestions for a good laser in the 50-100mw range, I'm all ears. For now I'm tryin to kinda keep it cheapish though.

Well I tried out the 3.6v CR2's from Mohrenberg today, and they make a noticeable difference. I can now burn through black plastic bag (the "w" of a wal-mart bag) in a little under a second. This is more like it :) Would you guys say that this sounds like a proper 50mw now?

That sounds more like 50mW to me, I know it's hard to do without a power meter but it is generally accepted that 50mW should melt through plastic bags. I'm glad that you could it working up to power!
