2W Ophir Head LPM from Bluefan

Hi,
yesterday i made some videos of my new Ophir Head LPM which i bought from Bluefan.
This is how it looks like:

The LPM runs of two 9V batteries, for the Dual Rail configuration the OPHIR head needs(thx @ lasersbee for the heads-up). From one battery the power for the 2.000 counts (2W max) display is gattered.
It is the 20C-A Ophir head with some custom wiring.

Very nice response times!

And the module isn't bad at all either. Would have expected a lot more IR...
 
Yeah i love the response times and i'd had also expected much more IR from the ebay module...nice green :) :cheers:

Did you build the circuit...???

Just to clarify for anyone that may want to build the same...

It requires two (2) 9V batteries in a Dual Rail configuration to
run the OPHIR Head correctly..

If your DPM does not draw too much current then you can
tap off of one of the two batteries (which is what I see here)
That will cause that one battery to drain faster than the other.

If your readings start getting strange it may be due to that
one battery's voltage dropping too low and unbalancing the
Dual Rail required by the OPHIR Head.

BTW... If you connect a compatible 4-1/2 digit DPM.. your OPHIR
Head will read up to 5W... ;)

Btw: i know that the head is capable of a higher measuring range but 2W is more than suitable for my needs :beer:
If you attach active cooling you can measure a maximum of 20W

If you attach active cooling you can measure a maximum of 20W

Dual rail means that the OHIR Head (in your LPM) requires +9V and
Common Ground connections and also -9V and Common Ground
connections.

That requires 2 separate batteries...:yh:

Jerry is correct, the two batteries provide a symmetric voltage. The Ophir head can be powered up to +/- 18V and the output is 2V below it's input voltage, so it can only read up to 16W.
The battery drain is assymetric, but the panel meter uses a 7805 so the panel meter will go blank before the power meter can't read up to 2W anymore.
 
Yeah - I love this little thing... especially because it's already calibrated.
