I acquired some IR filters from an ebay seller in china. The trilights 150mW I have was putting out around 350mW pre-IR filter. I then tweeked the current pot to about 420mW. But for some reason now its putting out 525mW. In any case, I put one of the IR filters on the aperture and with the filter I get about 280mW. Odd. 525mW unfiltered 280mW filtered.

Wondering about the quality of these IR filters...

Are you talking about these?

I just bought a couple and haven't tried them out yet.

Question about pot tweaking. Did you adjust the pot just above the pot marked "TEC MODE"? I had tried this myself while the unit was running and after a 15min warm up period but I had no visible change of the output intensity. Any suggestions?

I also tried when I got mine to adjust the pot. The only thing I was able to accomplish was to make the laser unstable. Was able to put the settings back to the way they were.

In this picture that Dnar took which is the gain. I am thinking one is the gain and the other is a balance? Also did anyone else have white goop that had to be scraped off to get at the adjuster heads?

yes those exact ones. i have never used an IR filter before so I am not sure how much attenuation to expect. But if this is correct it means the laser output is about 50% IR.

Your math is correct, however since these lasers are sold as 150mW GREEN lasers, you're still doing more than fine. The seller/manufacturer's power rating is based on green output only.

How long after you bought the laser did the seller ship it? I bought the analog modulated one 5 days ago and he still hasn't shipped it yet.

I've had mine for awhile, but I want to say it was only a couple days.. Have you asked the seller what the delay is about?

So I decided to crank up the laser current pot. at full blast the laser was a little unstable but it only took a small tweek down from full to get the laser to remain stable.

I'm not sure if you missed my question in post #115, I didn't get a response. Any ideas?

Yeah I had seen that posted before but since I hadn't had any luck with that pot I was hoping maybe it was the other one, but I didn't want to touch it without checking first.

Ok I have confirmed it's the top one for the laser, I turned it like 20 turns to the left and the laser got really dim then turned off, to far to the right and it turns on for 3 second then off for 2 second then repeats, until I brought I back down a bit. I turned the TEC one up a bit just because I wanted it to work a bit better if the laser is turned up, but I don't think it's necessary.

So am I correct that the TEC only cools the driver? EF is this what you are using in your projector- just one? thanx

Interesting. The more you drive the laser the more IR you get with no increase in green. I would think you have gone too far mate. To my mind, the percentage or IR indicates how effectively the crystals are lasing. I would personally go for a setting that produced both a strong stable beam and also the lowest percentage or IR. Keep them crystals happy!

No, the TEC cools the heatsink mounted to the DPPS module.

I had one of these in one of my projectors, in fact it was a module exactly like this that I used to build my first projector. It was a bit of an older version, and cost me substantially more than these when I bought it, but it had remarkably good modulation response, with only very minimal blanking-induced power loss from time to time.. I used it for many, many hours.. in fact I still have that one and one of these newer analog versions. I currently have CNI green modules in my projectors.

As far as the TEC goes, it only cools the diode. There is no active cooling for the crystal set.
