In this review I want to show some in-and-out of the Ehgemus host with a 638nm single mode diode. I bought the host from Ehgemus a few weeks ago.
The host is very sleek and lightweight. It is completely made of aluminium. It has room for one 14650 3.7V Li-ion battery. The diode pocket is integrated in the host omitting the module and the heatsink. I had an idea of putting a single mode diode into it. This beautiful host deserves a diode with nothing but the best beam/dot spec.
After buying the 110mW Mitsubishi Single Mode Diode (ML520G54) I could start building the laser. With the information from RHD about the maximum current I decided to use a single AMC7135 ic as a driver. This little bugger delivers 350mA constant current with one 3.7V cell.
Enough talking. Here is the pictutorial
The Ehgemus 14650
The famous buttersmooth switch
Excellent finishing. You can't see which part is the rotating head. :undecided:
The Build
AMC7135 ic on a proto board. I cut a square of 3x3 points as driver base.
This thing is TINY !
Make connections between the points and solder the wires.
red wire : battery+
black wire : battery-
blue : diode+
white : diode -
All three pins of the diode are used for the driver. Ehgemus has already a wire for battery+ so I use this yellow wire.
I glue a moon shape aluminium sink under the driver. Then the whole assembly is glued into the brass tube.
It takes some fiddling to fits all the wires but I managed.
Add the lens, the 14650 battery and the laser is ready.
The beauty and the beast !
BEAMSHOTS
Good round dot. It has on both sides wings like the LPC-815/826 diodes.
The distance was 10 meter/30 feet
High-power short focal lens
650nm AR coated Acrylic lens. This lens gives the best looking dot.
The 3-element glass lens looks very nasty with this diode.
Color comparison 638nm vs 660nm red laser.
I made a nice case for the laser. A perfect gift ! :bday:
I hope you enjoy the tour and ceeya !
